The Ring of Barahir<\/strong>
\nBy: Old Toby<\/em><\/p>\n

A priceless treasure, wrought in silver,
\nserpents\u2019 heads and gem of green;
\nHouse of B\u00ebor in open war,
\ndefying Morgoth\u2019s deadly dream.
\nFelagund in challenge stood
\nbefore Death\u2019s door that bore his name;
\nsaved by the hand of mortal man
\nin Battle of the Sudden Flame.
\nA priceless treasure beyond measure,
\nwashed in blood and held in fear;
\na gift well-earned for life returned
\nfrom Felagund to Barahir.<\/p>\n

A token for a time of war,
\na father\u2019s son to wear the ring;
\n\u2018twas by perchance he saw her dance,
\nfair L\u00fathien, and heard her sing.
\nBeren fell beneath her spell,
\nher price born out of ancient greed;
\nher father\u2019s will, a Silmaril,
\na jewel to sate his hungry need.
\nA token for an oath that swore
\nan Elf King\u2019s promise gravely made;
\nthe battle won, he saved the son,
\nand by his death the debt was paid.<\/p>\n

A priceless treasure, wrought in silver,
\ntoken for a time of war;
\nan heirloom passed down to the last
\nsurviving kin of Isildur.
\nA priceless treasure beyond measure,
\ntoken for an oath that swore
\nboth blood and tears down through the years;
\nthe final end, the Timeless Shore.
\nFrom elven King thus passed the ring
\nto mortal hand, to legend\u2019s heir;
\na silver ring for Gondor\u2019s King,
\nthe fabled Ring of Barahir.<\/p>\n

\nTo the mountain home,
\nTo our hoard of gold,
\nAnd our fathers’ bones.<\/p>\n

Look to the East,
\nPast darkening trees,
\nPast the Bear-man’s land,
\nAnd goblin thieves.<\/p>\n

Look to the East,
\nTo Elven halls,
\nPast quarrelling trolls,
\nAnd rain that falls.<\/p>\n

Look to the East,
\nOver Shire hills,
\nPast green smials,
\nAnd Hobbit mills.<\/p>\n

\nPast evenings well fed.
