TOLKIEN&#8217;S TIMELESS CLASSIC\u00a0<em>THE HOBBIT<\/em><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>First film slated to open on December 14, 2012 and\u00a0<strong>second film to be released on December 13, 2013<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have announced the titles and release dates for filmmaker Peter Jackson\u2019s two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s enduringly popular masterpiece\u00a0<em>The Hobbit<\/em>. \u00a0The first film, titled \u201cThe Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,\u201d will be released on December 14, 2012. \u00a0The second film, titled \u201cThe Hobbit: There and Back Again,\u201d is slated for release the following year, on December 13, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Both films are set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien\u2019s \u201cThe Lord of the Rings,\u201d which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar\u00ae-winning \u201cThe Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.\u201d \u00a0The adventure of \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.<\/p>\n<p>Under Jackson\u2019s direction, both movies are being shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest camera and stereo technology. \u00a0Filming is taking place at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in \u201cThe Lord of the Rings\u201d trilogy, and Martin Freeman, who just won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC series \u201cSherlock,\u201d takes on the central role of Bilbo Baggins. \u00a0Also reprising their roles from \u201cThe Lord of the Rings\u201d movies are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel;
