This weekend TORn’s Hall of Fire returns to the Hobbit to examine “Riddles in the Dark”.<\/p>\n

Bilbo wakes up lost and afraid. Crawling along in the dark, not knowing where he’s going, one of his hands makes contact with a small, cold, metal ring. Little does he realise how putting it in his pocket will change the fate of middle-earth.<\/p>\n

What do we learn about Gollum? We’ll talk about the the nature of Bilbo and Gollum’s riddle game, and Bilbo’s despearate wager as he seeks a way out of the mountains. And what might have influenced Tolkien’s imagination here? And what of the ring itself?<\/p>\n
