Excerpts from the Telegraph&#8217;s article follow:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening,\u201d the 79-year-old actor admitted to me at the Saatchi Gallery. \u201cI haven\u2019t heard anything for weeks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI had great fun playing Baggins in the first two films and the plan had been, with Martin Freeman playing Young Baggins, I would be the Old Baggins,\u201d he adds. \u201cI suppose the earthquake in Christchurch couldn\u2019t have helped with communications.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sophie de Stempel, Sir Ian\u2019s wife, tells me: \u201cI worry that the film has run into so much bad luck that they might have missed their chance altogether.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s hoping we get to see Sir Ian Holm in the character of the memorable old Bilbo once again.
