{"id":29142,"date":"2008-07-03T17:07:31","date_gmt":"2008-07-03T22:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/?p=29142"},"modified":"2008-07-03T17:07:31","modified_gmt":"2008-07-03T22:07:31","slug":"movie-mayhem-at-the-royal-armouries-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/2008\/07\/03\/29142-movie-mayhem-at-the-royal-armouries-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Movie Mayhem at the Royal Armouries this Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/logo.gif\" rel=\"lightbox[pics29142]\" title=\"Royale Armouries Logo\" class=\"no-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/logo.gif\" alt=\"Royale Armouries Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"26\" class=\"attachment wp-att-29143 alignright no-lazyload\" \/><\/a> This summer the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalarmouries.org\"><strong>Royal Armouries Museum<\/strong><\/a> in Leeds will be showcasing the weapons and armour from some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of recent years including The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (the second instalment, Prince Caspian opened in the UK 26 June).<\/p>\n<p>Craftsman-made by the world-famous, Oscar-winning WETA workshops in Wellington, New Zealand, many of the 230+ props have never been displayed in public before. The free exhibition Arms and Armour from the Movies: The Wonderful World of WETA (*see \u2018notes to editors\u2019) opens 12 July (daily 10am \u2013 5pm) and runs until 16 November &#8211; it will be the only opportunity for movie buffs and the general public to see these exquisite items in the UK. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will feature some of the most iconic props from the films including Aragorn\u2019s sword and Sauron\u2019s helmet (The Lord of the Rings); the White Witch\u2019s wand and Lucy\u2019s dagger (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe); one of the plane-mounted Lewis machine guns that killed King Kong (King Kong); and Hellboy\u2019s Samaritan revolver (Hellboy).<\/p>\n<p>Arms and Armour from the Movies: The Wonderful World of WETA has come about because of a personal friendship developed between the Armouries Senior Curator of Historic Edged Weapons, Bob Woosnam-Savage, and Richard Taylor who, along with the director Peter Jackson, is one of the co-directors of WETA.<\/p>\n<p>Many of WETA\u2019s weapons and armour are based on medieval European and Eastern designs and are bespoke items individually built for both \u2018beauty\u2019 shots and for stunt-combat, often using contemporary techniques.
