WELLINGTON ENJOYS RINGS PROSPERITY<\/p>\n

Filming of the three part
\n
blockbuster ‘Lord of the
\n
Rings’ is proving a big
\n
winner for Wellington. <\/p>\n

Cafes, landlords, hire
\n
companies and retailers all
\n
say they are reaping
\n
benefits from the making of
\n
the movie.<\/p>\n

“We’re hoping for a lot more
\n
from it. It’s good work,”
\n
says Vaughan Clark from
\n
Triple A Cranes.<\/p>\n

‘Lord of the Rings’ is
\n
spending a hundred million
\n
dollars in Wellington alone. <\/p>\n

They are hiring a thousand
\n
locals as extras, and the full
\n
time staff from overseas are
\n
keeping real estate agents
\n
busy. <\/p>\n

“On the residential side it’s
\n
stopped the decline and
\n
that has got to be good for
\n
everybody. On the industrial
\n
commercial side it’s taken
\n
up slack that nobody knew
\n
what to do with,” says Brian
\n
Baker from Home Rent.<\/p>\n

Director Peter Jackson has
\n
taken over factories and
\n
warehouses that were left
\n
empty by the demise of
\n
other businesses.<\/p>\n

And he is keeping
\n
booksellers happy too.<\/p>\n

“Since the movie started it’s
\n
just been amazing. We can’t
\n
get enough of it basically.
\n
The publishers find it hard
\n
to keep up with supply,”
\n
says Bruce Caddy of
\n
Dymocks Booksellers.<\/p>\n

Supplying food for the stars
\n
is also big business.<\/p>\n

“They come for lunch or they
\n
come for a quick morning
\n
tea or they come for
\n
takeaways,” says Penny
\n
Pennington of the Chocolate
\n
Fish cafe<\/p>\n

And locals seem to be
\n
getting the odd glimpse at
\n
the stars.<\/p>\n

“One day Elijah Wood yelled
\n
out to Liv Tyler, ‘You don’t
\n
need your sunglasses and
\n
your collar turned up here
\n
Liv, it’s quite casual'”,
\n
Pennington said.<\/p>\n

The hobbits the elves and

the auks invade
\n
