Among those interviewed was Mark Ordesky, who said that, despite its large budget, &#8220;Lord of the Rings&#8221; was an independent film.  The piece focused on changes in the nature of independent film, mostly about the increasing commercialization of what used to be a chase for $50,000 movies made by directors who had maxed out their parents&#8217; credit cards.
