Both are stunning works, filled with shadows and light; but starkly contrasting. The closest fight <em>Edoras <\/em>had to face was against Donato Giancola&#8217;s <em>Walls of Moria<\/em>, which claimed 45% of the vote. In the rest of the matchups, Alan Lee&#8217;s piece won by margins in the 70s and 80s percentage-wise. Mohan&#8217;s piece, on the other hand, only ever won by numbers in the 50s; in the second round, only ONE vote separated <em>L\u00fathien and Morgoth<\/em> from its competitor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/angelo_montanini_artist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Angelo Montanini\">Angelo Montanini<\/a>&#8216;s <em>Radagast the Magician<\/em>. A beautiful piece and a very worthy competitor, nonetheless <em>L\u00fathien and Morgoth<\/em> had to fight harder to make it to the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it is perhaps not a surprise that this year&#8217;s Grand Champion of Middle-earth March Madness is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-120369 no-lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion-255x143.png 255w, https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-Middle-earth-March-Madness-Champion.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staffer Madeye Gamgee shares his thoughts on the winner:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It has been a steady, even overwhelming Ride of the Rohirrim finally bringing the gritty endurance of the L\u00fathien\/Morgoth faceoff to the end of its exciting underdog run! The most serious competition that <em>Edoras <\/em>faced during the tournament came against Donato Giancola&#8217;s <em>The Walls of Moria<\/em>, a 55\/45 matchup; even while Mohan&#8217;s <em>L\u00fathien and Morgoth <\/em>escaped from two of its matchups with a combined total of six votes. This has been by far the most competitive contest across the entire field that I can remember over many years of Middle-earth March Madness &#8212; a testament to the wide appeal and high quality of every artist featured. Here&#8217;s hoping that prints of some of their works have found new homes! I know they have in mine!
