It was during his years at Leeds that he wrote&nbsp;<em>A Middle English Vocabulary<\/em>&nbsp;and his definitive edition of&nbsp;<em>Sir Gawain and the Green Knight<\/em> (with E. V. Gordon). Like many other areas of England&#8217;s &#8216;green and pleasant land&#8217;, there are stunning landscapes across West Yorkshire which lay claim to be (at least partly) inspiration for the Shire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/2018\/10\/12\/105423-tolkien-exhibition-still-at-the-bodleian-oxford-until-oct-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"Tolkien Archivist Catherine McIlwaine\">Tolkien Archivist Catherine McIlwaine<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johngarth.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"author and scholar John Garth\">author and scholar John Garth<\/a>, and others will participate in various presentations, exploring Tolkien&#8217;s work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>What was Tolkien\u2019s intended ending for <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em>? What was the audience\u2019s response to the first ever adaptation of <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em> \u2013 a radio dramatisation that has now been deleted forever from the BBC\u2019s archives? The University of Oxford\u2019s Grace Khuri will be joined by Tolkien Archivist Catherine McIlwaine and biographer John Garth to explore J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s mammoth legacy and his son\u2019s tireless work in sharing it with the world.<\/p><p><strong>Catherine McIlwaine, John Garth, Grace Khuri: Tolkien: The Great Tales Never End (Saturday 25<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June at 10.30am). Tolkien\u2019s much-loved fantasy worlds \u2013 including Catherine J.
