TheOneRing.net is not responsible for poems posting with spelling or grammatical errors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Why Do You Wish To Enter The Wood?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by:\u00a0Saoirse C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Why do you wish to enter the wood?<br \/>\nOnly fools go in,<br \/>\nand none come out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Only those who wish to die,<br \/>\nwho no longer deem the world<br \/>\nto be fit,<br \/>\nand children who cry,<br \/>\nfor mothers, at monsters, and<br \/>\ndemons all,<br \/>\nventure into the wood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is no fame,<br \/>\nglory does not exist,<br \/>\ngreed is useless,<br \/>\npride is left behind<br \/>\nin the wood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nightmares are born,<br \/>\nDreams are lost,<br \/>\nHope resides,<br \/>\nFear chases<br \/>\nwithin the wood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The trees sway in the whispers,<br \/>\nthe whispers of those lost in their souls,<br \/>\nsouls twisted by the words of the mind,<br \/>\nthe wood is their home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The critters,<br \/>\nbrought by those before you,<br \/>\nfallen from their pockets,<br \/>\nare the cruelties of mankind,<br \/>\nscurrying throughout<br \/>\nthe wood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Will you still go into the wood?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Aegnor and Andreth<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Briony L.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The agony of Aegnor and Andreth was shared,<br \/>\nto be sundered by seas of sorrow and time.<br \/>\nAegnor and Andreth, their anguish in love,<br \/>\nthe Elda and Adan, the Elf and Man.<br \/>\nOne minute they mingled, a moth and flame,<br \/>\nthe next was dark as night in Thangorodrim.<br \/>\nTheir love flourished, a lonely flower<br \/>\nin the North in an Age of neglect and anger.<br \/>\nYet he did not marry the mortal, even so they mingled in love<br \/>\nwith caresses, cuddles, and kisses. They gazed<br \/>\ninto each other\u2019s eyes and saw there<br \/>\ntheir future and fate fulfilled\u2014their love<br \/>\nwould last not long, nor linger through Ages<br \/>\nsave in a song. Their sorrow was decided<br \/>\nwhen leaves fell from boughs. Not like L\u00fathien and Beren<br \/>\nwould fare their fate; they would fall in death.<br \/>\nBy the lake they lay with link\u00e8d hands<br \/>\nin Taur-nu-Fuin, the terrible forest.<br \/>\nThe stars stretched across the straits above<br \/>\nand shone sickly shadows on the lovers.<br \/>\nAndreth was mortal as all Men are<br \/>\nand her life and love would leave Aegnor<br \/>\nalone and aching through the Ages. His lover said:<br \/>\n\u2018Elda, we Edain age and go grey,<br \/>\nwe crease and curve and crack with the years.<br \/>\nWill you greatly grieve or give me a hand<br \/>\nwhen my body breaks? Or will you bolt, ashamed?<br \/>\nMy death will be dark for you, dearest Aegnor.\u2019<br \/>\n\u2018Andreth,\u2019 said Aegnor, \u2018my Adan, I love you<br \/>\nyet our love cannot last. The lust of war<br \/>\nbids me battle. You are no Beren, nor I L\u00fathien\u2014<br \/>\nour fates are sundered by the fathomless Sea.<br \/>\nI must leave you, my Adan, and love you no more.<br \/>\nI fear that death will be my fate on the battlefield.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Andreth was alone and angry with her fate.<br \/>\nIn her friend she confided, Finrod the brother<br \/>\nof Aegnor. He listened to her anguish and comforted her.<br \/>\nHe said: \u2018Aegnor loved you and only left you<br \/>\nin greatest need. He girded his sword and<br \/>\nhis flame flitted away, fast on the wind;<br \/>\nbattle beckoned, his blade hungry<br \/>\nfor Morgoth\u2019s minions to massacre justly.<br \/>\nHis love for you will last through the long Ages<br \/>\nthough his spirit will be sundered from your soul and body<br \/>\nand dwell in the dark until the Days are ended.\u2019<br \/>\nHer dearest died defending Beleriand,<br \/>\nwhile she lingered on lone and loveless in the North.<br \/>\nDestiny decreed their different fates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to The Great Hall of Poets, our regular monthly feature showcasing the talent of Middle-earth fans.
