The string was pulled,
\nThe string was taut,
\nThe arrow loosed,
\nThe wind it caught.<\/p>\n

Far over hill and dale it soared,
\nTo serve both friend and mighty lord.
\nPursuing one with cursed name,
\nThrough peril and through fire and flame.<\/p>\n

Strong friend was he, both brave and true,
\nHis strength and fire ever grew,
\nUntil a flame that burned as bright,
\nAs Silmarils in evening light.<\/p>\n

His love was but to defend,
\nHe was a true and loyal friend,
\nValor and honor were his wont,
\nAnd it led him to a bitter end.<\/p>\n

Against evil he bravely fought,
\nBut evil was the one he sought,
\nWho pierced him through with frozen blade,
\nAnd only pain and sorrow brought.<\/p>\n

No more in fair woods will he sing,
\nNo evening light or glow he bring.
\nThese woods are barren wasted lands,
\nWrought with lament for truest friend.<\/p>\n

History Passing<\/strong><\/h4>\n

“Atlantis”? No, my grandson
\nYour wise priests intone awry
\nHear and mark, for truth is passing
\nInto myth! Recite, as I:<\/p>\n

When the mercy of the gods
\nCast the pride of Men-folk down
\nSailed the Remnant from once-sacred shores
\nAnd watched their brethren drown<\/p>\n

While the hammer of Ar-Pharazon
\nMade land on Aman’s shore
\nStruck with wounds, Isildur bled and fled
\nHis home to see no more<\/p>\n

But bore he in his bosom
\nHis kin’s hope for brighter day
\nAnd the White Tree’s sapling yet would grow
\nAs his line throned did stay<\/p>\n

They called it “Atalante”
\nWhen the Isle of Promise fell
\nBut its given name was Numenor
\nIf old tales we would tell<\/p>\n

I have loved the sadness of his quiet face,
\nI have understood the despair in his eyes,
\nI have known his aura, his hope, his grace,
\nAnd the age-old guilt which in his soul lies.<\/p>\n

I have soothed his brow and felt the blades,
\nI have tried to ease constant pain by touch;
\nHe\u2019s love to me, and now when all life fades,
\nDeath, when compared to this love, is not much.<\/p>\n

I have chosen enveloping darkness,
\nI have spurned the last of the passing ships,
\nI have shunned every sign of weakness,
\nFor the memory of his eyes, his lips.<\/p>\n

If Aman promised me my share of bliss,
\nI care not, for, in his heart, I have this.<\/p>\n
