Luckless-<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>By Sterling Kerman,<\/em><br \/>\nTaken from the \u2018Children of H\u00farin\u2019 by J.R.R Tolkien<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Son of H\u00farin,<br \/>\nCaptain of Men,<br \/>\nLover, Avenger,<br \/>\nTraitor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From the mountains of Dor\u2019lomin<br \/>\nTo the cliffs of Cabed.<br \/>\nOnly glory, did he follow,<br \/>\nOnly death, did he leave.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">On the reign of Thingol,<br \/>\nHe slew Saeros.<br \/>\nAnd so he fled,<br \/>\nHidden with thieves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For days he plotted,<br \/>\nAnd plundered;<br \/>\nHe wielded outlaws,<br \/>\nAnd became a captain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then seeketh a Kingdom,<br \/>\nHe captured a dwarf.<br \/>\nThrough threat and death,<br \/>\nFrom M\u00eem, the halls Amon R\u00fbdh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But an act of treason,<br \/>\nM\u00eem broke oath.<br \/>\nA thousand orcs,<br \/>\nAnd the rage of Dwarves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Through capture and torment,<br \/>\nT\u00farin was broken.<br \/>\nBut his friend, Beleg the Bowman,<br \/>\nCame to rescue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But through darkness and pain,<br \/>\nThrough fear and madness,<br \/>\nT\u00farin slayed Beleg,<br \/>\nHis friend of old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Only flee could T\u00farin,<br \/>\nWith Gwindor, to Nargothrond.<br \/>\nNo longer T\u00farin, but Agarwaen.<br \/>\nHidden from his shame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There he renewed, the cursed blade.<br \/>\nAnglachel, Beleg\u2019s blade, the one it had slain.<br \/>\nGurthang was its name,<br \/>\nThe Iron of Death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But out of the pain,<br \/>\nLove befell Argawaen,<br \/>\nFinduilas, daughter of Orodreth;<br \/>\nSoftened his maddened heart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But through defiance and treason,<br \/>\nHis name was revealed.<br \/>\nGwindor his friend,<br \/>\nNamed him T\u00farin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But unlike the expected,<br \/>\nGreatness was only given.<br \/>\nChief councilor, lord of Elves.<br \/>\nBefell T\u00farin, under Orodreth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But as all tales do,<br \/>\nDarkness fell upon the unlikely Hero.<br \/>\nThe blade of Morgoth,<br \/>\nThe dragon Glaurung.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Upon battle, and the fires of the beast,<br \/>\nT\u00f9rin was trapped in the cursed gaze.<br \/>\nAnd idly, trapped, weak\u2026<br \/>\nHis love Finduilas, was gone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Tricked, and angered,<br \/>\nTo Dor\u2019lomin T\u00farin travelled.<br \/>\nSeeking his tormented kin.<br \/>\nBut only taint did he find.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The lands of H\u00farin,<br \/>\nAnd Aerin,<br \/>\nWere now of Brodda,<br \/>\nNo sign of mother, nor sister Nienor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Thus, in a rage,<br \/>\nHe slayed Brodda.<br \/>\nBut only angered he, the lords therein.<br \/>\nAnd to fire, did Aerin fell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And so T\u00farin left in search,<br \/>\nNo more did he seek his kin,<br \/>\nBut rather, Finduilas.<br \/>\nAnd search, did he\u2026 But all too late.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">On the roads to Brethil, he learned:<br \/>\nThat the prisoners of Nargothrond, were no more.<br \/>\nIn anguish he fell,<br \/>\nAnd was taken to Brethil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now, behold,<br \/>\nThat all this time.<br \/>\nHis sister, Nienor seeked him.<br \/>\nTo Nargothrond she went.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But there she found, the monstrous beast.<br \/>\nAnd into his eyes, she did gaze.<br \/>\n\u201cRemember no more,\u201d did he say.<br \/>\nAnd as glass, her mind was clear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">She became the same as a wild beast,<br \/>\nAnd into the forests she travelled far.<br \/>\nBut there upon the grave of his love,<br \/>\nDid T\u00farin, now Turambar, find her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Knowing her not, he named her N\u00edniel.<br \/>\nhe taught her all he knew.<br \/>\nAnd in an ill fate, he began to lust.<br \/>\nAnd both blind of the existing bond, as one they became.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But lo\u2019 the reign of Glaurund was unfinished;<br \/>\nTo Brethil he came.<br \/>\nWith the Iron of Death, and companions of two;<br \/>\nCame T\u00farin to defend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But as the beast was slain,<br \/>\nBy the might of Gurthang;<br \/>\nThe black blood of the beast,<br \/>\nFell upon T\u00farin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And in fear, came N\u00edniel.<br \/>\nSeeking her husband, fearing the end.<br \/>\nBut only death did she find,<br \/>\nThe body of T\u00farin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Off the cliff of Cabed-en-Aras;<br \/>\nshe leapt onto the river,<br \/>\nAnd was no more.<br \/>\nBut then awoke, T\u00farin of his deathly sleep.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He learned from Brandir, the fate of N\u00edniel.<br \/>\nIn anger, he slew Brandir.<br \/>\nTo the cliff thereof, did he go.<br \/>\nAnd anguish, he plotted his death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And he took Gurthang saying<br \/>\n\u201cTake but one more life\u201d<br \/>\nAnd upon the blackened blade,<br \/>\nHe fell to his death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And so was the tale of T\u00farin the cursed.<br \/>\nThe folk of Brethil raised a stone.<br \/>\nAnd buried their hero.<br \/>\nAnd now to this day, lays T\u00farin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sleep he does, till the end of time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>King Sheaf<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Briony\u00a0Loudoun<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sailing the seas by the sun guided,<br \/>\nshining to the shore came Sheaf the king\u2014<br \/>\nthe child of gold, chosen by the gods.<br \/>\nHis cradle was of corn, cut at harvest,<br \/>\nfrom foreign shores the flaxen sheaves.<br \/>\nThe boat was brought to bay, onto the sand.<br \/>\nIt was twin-prowed, of timbers proud,<br \/>\nby Woden\u2019s ravens, his winged riders<br \/>\nby air and oar. The young boy was<br \/>\ngreeted with grace by the great and small<br \/>\nof account among all the people.<br \/>\nLightly they lifted the lad from the boat,<br \/>\nhis beauty they beheld and brought him to the hall<br \/>\nThere lay the lad till late when Sheaf<br \/>\nwoke and wayward walked from the hall.<br \/>\nHis ship Sheaf found, of sheaves golden,<br \/>\nand took his talent and his task in his hands\u2014<br \/>\nhis harp and his hopeful harvest of corn.<br \/>\nHe played to the people both prayers and spells,<br \/>\nhis magical music mesmerised the folk<br \/>\nwhile gold glimmered and glinted in his hair,<br \/>\nraven twined with the rarest treasure<br \/>\nthe Olden Earth had ever seen:<br \/>\ncorn, the kernels that came from the sea.<br \/>\nTheir god of gold guided his people<br \/>\nhow to handle and harvest the golden<br \/>\ncrop. They crowned him king in thanks<br \/>\nfor his golden gift and guidance. For years<br \/>\nhe reigned as ruler of a rich people,<br \/>\na folk famed for their farming wealth.<br \/>\nBut soon the sun must set and a king\u2019s<br \/>\nright to rule be resigned to death.<br \/>\nSheaf was shorn of his shining life,<br \/>\nhis people prepared him properly for the journey<br \/>\nto the after-life where Elves linger<br \/>\nand legends live on lighted shores.<br \/>\nWith gold they gifted their greatest king<br \/>\nand piled his boat with a precious burden.<br \/>\nWith gold he came and with gold he was cast<br \/>\nwith blessings to the beaches of his birth, where corn<br \/>\ngrows in greatness and glimmers ever.<br \/>\nWith each crop of corn carried in at harvest<br \/>\nwe remember Sheaf and the riches and sheaves<br \/>\nhe brought in his boat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Ode to a Mallorn<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Rebecca D.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O mallorn tree, how bright your leaves,<br \/>\nMirror the evening radiance of Anor!<br \/>\nAs the fading light of autumn gold,<br \/>\nLingers, a beacon in the Shadow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Exalted beech of Valinor, how lofty are your eaves,<br \/>\nThat splay from argent-silver bark of silk!<br \/>\nA dwelling of ambrosial bliss;<br \/>\nMinas H\u00eeth: tower above the somber mist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Aureate Laureate, how your foliage interweaves,<br \/>\nDancing, ambling, fluttering down in Spring!<br \/>\nGathered in fallow flaxen heaps,<br \/>\nLasse-lanta, a song of leaf-fall on the zephyr.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Elegant Pillar, how fair your head receives,<br \/>\nSun-star blossoms that adorn your gossamer hair!<br \/>\nAstral lamps of divinely lit petals,<br \/>\nKindled Amber, twinkling at twilight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gilded Guard, how in summer you perceive,<br \/>\nNoon is peak, and still your leaves are green!<br \/>\nReflecting the silver light of the moon,<br \/>\nGreen-Grey Gate, protect viridescent day within.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O mallorn tree, how bright still are your leaves,<br \/>\nThough sun has set and night falls upon your eaves.<br \/>\nThough your stewards soon will depart in grief,<br \/>\nLinger, ageless memory, living dream, of what once was reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to The Great Hall of Poets, our regular monthly feature showcasing the talent of Middle-earth fans.
