INTERNATIONAL TOLKIEN READING DAY<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Brisbane Tolkien Fellowship will be celebrating Tolkien Reading Day – weekend 19-20 March (the following weekend is Easter).
\nThe theme for Tolkien Reading Day 2016 is Life, Death, and Immortality in J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s Middle-earth.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Tolkien Reading Day is an international event held on the 25th of March each year and
\ncelebrated by Tolkien Groups worldwide. It has been organised by the Tolkien Society since 2003 to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favourite passages.
\n\u2022 The 25th of March is the date of the downfall of the Lord of the Rings (Sauron) and the fall of Barad-d\u00fbr. It\u2019s as simple as that!
\n\u2022 \u201cTo be caught in youth by 1914 was no less hideous an experience than in 1939 \u2026 by 1918 all but one of my close friends were dead.\u201d \u2014 J.R.R. Tolkien, \u201cForeword to the Second Edition\u201d, The Lord of the Rings.
\n\u2022 The theme was chosen for 2016 to coincide with the one-hundredth anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Tolkien fought and survived this dreadful battle, but lost his close friend and fellow T.C.B.S. member Rob Gilson. The death of other close friends during World War One, undoubtedly shaped Tolkien\u2019s outlook on life and death, with mortality and immortality looming large in the Middle-earth legendarium.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Brisbane Tolkien Fellowship will be celebrating at the following Libraries:<\/p>\n

\u2022 March 19, Saturday – Logan North Library, commences at 11:00 am (Southside)
\n\u2022 March 20, Sunday – Chermside Library, commences at 1:00 pm. (Northside)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We invite people to come along and join the audience and if you would like to do a reading\/discussion you are most welcome to contribute to the program.<\/p>\n
