One Hobbit, 13 Dwarves in 6<\/strong><\/h4>\n

(inspired by Peter Jackson’s version of The Hobbit)<\/p>\n

Here’s a thing no respectable hobbit should endure:
\na plague of beards hungering at their home-sweet-home door
\noh so blithe they barged in
\nlaying siege with mayhem
\nsudden calamity served for my dinner hour<\/p>\n

Withered fig trifle and Bree cheese gone in a blink
\nnineteen kidney pasties they washed down with malt drinks
\nolives dunked in a treacle keg
\nevery spare crock of fish eggs
\nDratted dwarves! They’d be game for trollish gobble-ings!<\/p>\n

Just dreary dregs with nary a crust left for me
\na victim am I of Gandalf’s hospitality
\nthe rhubarb wine’s now in peril
\nno help is an empty barrel
\nImagine if they discovered my second pantry!!<\/p>\n

Earthenware jugs sit in a row, drained and capsized
\nhere bitten spoons, there roughly handled iron knives
\nVexing presumptuous gnomes,
\nwhy don’t they all just go home?
\nThen boots began to stamp and bold voices to rise ….<\/p>\n

Glinting blue buzzed past me — t’was my best bread-butterer!
\nThen prized plates launched hand to hand like skeet through the parlor
\nsaucers and tea cups flew forth and back
\nin wondrous symmetry each one stacked
\nat my “service,” laughed they, juggling dishes with sly words<\/p>\n

Though dumbstruck, I plucked up my Tookish courage once more
\nas the brass-throated dwarves ended their roistering roar
\njust invite my guests to de-party
\nput this misadventure behind me —
\nhold on —
\nwhose thunder is pounding my treasured green door?<\/p>\n

Seasons of Silence or A Fragment of T\u00farin\u2019s Lament for Beleg<\/h4>\n

Death is\u2014Death is a daily occurrence,
\nas Autumn is sure, when oaks are shorn
\nof leaves of gold that litter the ground.
\nYet I thought that a thousand Autumns
\nwould pass unperilous on our present Earth.
\nBlizzards follow, billowing and freezing\u2014
\nwe hope for healing when hyacinths
\nblow and beauty blossoms in Spring.
\nThen sails the sun in Summer before Fall.<\/p>\n

I am sorry, my love, that silence lingered
\non my lips. My love lessened never
\nthough seasons went by with certainty
\nand my life was littered with lies and hate.
\nI dwelt on death and destruction
\nas the years yielded to ever-turning
\ntime. My tears are tainted with blood
\nnow as I kneel in never-ending
\nregret; I\u2019ve regained regions of my mind
\nand heart I once handed to hate, but now
\nI\u2019m back they\u2019re blank and black with neglect.
\nMy lips have loved too late, the words
\nI silenced are sick with sorrow and death.
\nMy silence is as certain as the seasons, as sure
\nas the tumbling tide and the turning years.
\nDearest, darkened by death, my love
\nforever lasts through falling leaves
\nand loneliness.<\/p>\n
