September 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Battle of the Hornburg<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"intro\"><em>by: Lydwina\u00a0Marie<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The rain fell hard and heavy,<br \/>\nthe tramping of feet was steady.<br \/>\nUpon the wall the men stood firm,<br \/>\nnot yielding, brave and tall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From the dark sky there came a rain<br \/>\nof glittering arrows; \u2018twas the Orc bane!<br \/>\nBut there flew a return of dark, barbed shafts<br \/>\nand men fell that day that should have lived.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Aragorn Elessar stood beside the King<br \/>\nupon the Tower; his face was grim.<br \/>\nThe outlook was grim indeed that day<br \/>\nfor the Orcs were many, and they were few.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A hail of dark arrows flew from the wall,<br \/>\ndescending upon the Orcs from walls tall:<br \/>\nThe Orcs could not stand against such a storm<br \/>\nyet the battle had only just begun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A flash of fire cut through the night:<br \/>\nthe Deeping Wall burst: dire, Men\u2019s plight!<br \/>\nNow indeed their forces were few<br \/>\nbut as of yet they were not through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now grim intent lay in their face<br \/>\nand determined was their fast pace.<br \/>\nThey would return the blow<br \/>\nthough too late, perhaps, it seemed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00c9omer, the King\u2019s son, stood with Aragorn;<br \/>\ntheir hearts with love for friends was torn:<br \/>\nBut together their swords glittered,<br \/>\nunsheathing in moon\u2019s bright gleam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Together they ran, swift as wind,<br \/>\nthat flies between swaying trees.<br \/>\nTowards the charging Orcs<br \/>\nto their midst, where evil lurks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A shadow rose, cast itself upon the Prince,<br \/>\nand \u00c9omer fell upon the stones:<br \/>\nBut the deed was not ended, for behold:<br \/>\nGimli, Gl\u00f3in\u2019s son, with his axe so cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Thrice it gleamed, blood then flowed<br \/>\nand \u00c9omer arose, his blade glowed;<br \/>\nAnd then threw himself upon the horde<br \/>\nof Orcs that stood upon Hornburg\u2019s road.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now the Orcs felt fear, and back they swayed<br \/>\nand continued not Hornburg\u2019s raid:<br \/>\nBut retreated, chased by Elessar\u2019s heir;<br \/>\n\u2018twas Aragorn, strong and tall!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Aragorn of Gondor stood upon the wall,<br \/>\nAnd\u00faril in hand, firm and tall!<br \/>\n\u201cBack!\u201d his clear voice commanded.<br \/>\n\u201cFor now comes the dawn of day!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Orc hordes swayed:<br \/>\nthe Sun was rising o\u2019er mountain glade!<br \/>\nAnd from the peak of the mountains came<br \/>\nGandalf the White and Erkenbrand the Fair!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wielding spear and bow, they galloped down<br \/>\nand upon the Orcs Fangorn frowned!<br \/>\nIt opened wide to enclose them within,<br \/>\nnever more to reappear by land or sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So the Battle of the Hornburg ended at last,<br \/>\nas great as any battles fought long past.<br \/>\nRohan was freed of Saruman\u2019s sway,<br \/>\nbut many also had been slain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Victory is never without much cost;<br \/>\nand so it was with the Rohirrim.<br \/>\nMany who were not meant to die<br \/>\nwere slain, and upon that bloody field they lay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Battle of the Hornburg by: Lydwina\u00a0Marie The rain fell hard and heavy, the tramping of feet was&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":82,"featured_media":0,"parent":80298,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-99366","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/P1tLoH-pQG","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/99366","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/82"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=99366"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/99366\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":99367,"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/99366\/revisions\/99367"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/80298"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=99366"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
