March 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Fili\u2019s Lament<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"intro\"><em>By Kili\u2019s Runestone<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Me staring back was your very first sight,<br \/>\nWhen you opened your eyes that night.<br \/>\nYou learned to crawl as I learned to walk,<br \/>\nYou learned to eat as I learned to talk.<br \/>\nYour very first word was my own name,<br \/>\nThe best of friends is what we became.<br \/>\nThorin gave us wood shields and swords,<br \/>\nHe told us stories of dragons and hoards,<br \/>\nWe dreamt of adventure, we played pretend,<br \/>\nIf I was an orc, your play bow you\u2019d bend,<br \/>\nIf you were an orc, I\u2019d slash my sword,<br \/>\nWe were together, we were never bored.<br \/>\nWe\u2019d spin long tales of glory and gold,<br \/>\nWe talked of what we\u2019d do when old,<br \/>\nWe talked of treasure, of battles we\u2019d fight,<br \/>\nWe talked of fame, of strength, of might,<br \/>\nWe soon were men, though quite young,<br \/>\nStill we dreamt, when songs were sung,<br \/>\nOf winning the war, of quenched dragon fire,<br \/>\nAnd when we journeyed out to the Shire,<br \/>\nWe followed our leader, our captain, our king.<br \/>\nWe went merry, many a song we\u2019d sing,<br \/>\nWe raced our ponies, we gazed at stars,<br \/>\nWe escaped together, from Thranduil\u2019s bars.<br \/>\nI worried over you, but we had best of fun,<br \/>\nSometimes we rode, sometimes we\u2019d run,<br \/>\nWe always sang, told tales of treasure,<br \/>\nWe braided hair, our beards we\u2019d measure,<br \/>\nWe grew more solemn as the dragon drew near,<br \/>\nBut we grew not afraid, we did not feel fear,<br \/>\nThorin was our leader, and Bilbo had a ring,<br \/>\nWe were Durin\u2019s sons, we did not fear a thing.<br \/>\nBut when Thorin descended to madness,<br \/>\nAnd I saw in your eyes pain and sadness,<br \/>\nWhen innumerable ranks, we charged,<br \/>\nWhen through shield and spear we barged,<br \/>\nWhen the sword smote through my breast,<br \/>\nWhen the lance struck through your chest,<br \/>\nWhen bleeding I fell into the cold dark mud,<br \/>\nTried to scream but what came was only blood,<br \/>\nYou stumbled towards me but could not stand,<br \/>\nYou crawled to me, I reached for your hand,<br \/>\nWe cried together and thought sadly of old,<br \/>\nWe had thought battles were all glory and gold,<br \/>\nYou shuddered and asked if you were dying,<br \/>\nI said no, though we both knew I was lying,<br \/>\nI said you should sleep, I\u2019ll sing you a song,<br \/>\nI sang to you of far away caves, of rivers long,<br \/>\nI sang to you of mother, of laughter and love,<br \/>\nI sang to you of the Arkenstone stars above.<br \/>\nBlood poured from my mouth as I whispered to you,<br \/>\nYour beautiful face began to take a grey hue,<br \/>\nWe held each other, you whispered good bye,<br \/>\nI remembered when you said you\u2019d never die.<br \/>\nYour eyes fluttered closed, you breathed your last,<br \/>\nI told you I loved you, remembered days long past,<br \/>\nWe were children who didn\u2019t know fear,<br \/>\nI closed my eyes and drew you near,<br \/>\nAnd then in the bloodied evening grey,<br \/>\nI dropped your hand and slipped away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Battle of the Pelennor<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>By Elodrin<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In front of the City<br \/>\nThe orcs show no pity.<br \/>\nWhile women are weeping<br \/>\nIn death, men are sleeping.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The battle was almost lost:<br \/>\nGreat was the orcs\u2019 grim cost.<br \/>\nWhen horns commenced to ring,<br \/>\nAnd the Horse-lords began to sing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Forward they charged and fast,<br \/>\nAnd though their army was not vast,<br \/>\nThey slew the Enemy and sang<br \/>\nAs sword on shield began to clang.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yet it was going very ill:<br \/>\nMen of Harad came to kill.<br \/>\nThe King fought well, but soon was slain<br \/>\nUpon that blood-red, grassy plain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But upon the dawn of newborn day,<br \/>\nWhen sun in her lonely rest still lay,<br \/>\nThere came upon the blood-stained river<br \/>\nThe Dead that caused all men to shiver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wielding shining swords they ran,<br \/>\nAs seasoned warriors only can.<br \/>\nDismayed, the orcs threw down their shields,<br \/>\nEnding the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>LOTR&#8217;s Poem<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by &#8211;
