{"id":92943,"date":"2014-10-03T00:31:20","date_gmt":"2014-10-03T05:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/?page_id=92943"},"modified":"2014-10-03T01:55:05","modified_gmt":"2014-10-03T06:55:05","slug":"the-great-hall-of-poets-september-2014","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/the-great-hall-of-poets\/the-great-hall-of-poets-september-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Hall of Poets &#8211; September 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Ring Cycle<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"intro\"><em>by MarSilvanus<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The smiths of Eregion they learnt,<br \/>\nLong ere the fires of Sauron burnt,<br \/>\nTo forge the Rings, the art of things<br \/>\nAnd power in shapes and forms to hold,<br \/>\nFate sealed in Ring of Gold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The dwarves in Moria they dwelt<br \/>\nAnd taught the elves to metals melt<br \/>\nAnd so create, with hammers shape<br \/>\nThe mithril, silver, bronze and gold,<br \/>\nIn shapes and forms to hold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Rings of Power the elves then forged<br \/>\nAnd Sauron on their wisdom gorged.<br \/>\nIn fair disguise he feigned surprise<br \/>\nWhen Three Great Rings the elves did mould,<br \/>\nIn mithril, bronze and gold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He saw them not, so Seven more<br \/>\nFor dwarves he wrought from precious ore,<br \/>\nAnd then still Nine with jewels fine<br \/>\nAs gifts to Men for falsehood sold,<br \/>\nIn Rings that he did mould.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But One still stronger he did make<br \/>\nHid deep in Mordor: earth did quake<br \/>\nAnd fires stirred. The elves then heard<br \/>\nHis true intent: his powers bent<br \/>\nIn heated wrath and malice cold,<br \/>\nFalsehood that he sold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One Ring he made to rule them all,<br \/>\nEnsnared all but the Three to fall<br \/>\nUnder his power and since that hour<br \/>\nAs Lord of Rings he ruled of old,<br \/>\nIn wrath and malice cold \u2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then Middle-earth in Shadow fell,<br \/>\nThe Lord of Rings cast his dark spell<br \/>\nAnd none could stand against the hand<br \/>\nOf blackness that this Ring did hold,<br \/>\nThe Lord of Rings of old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But still against him in defiance<br \/>\nThere formed a desperate Last Alliance<br \/>\nOf Elves and Men, they stood again,<br \/>\nTheir banners blazed with courage bold,<br \/>\n\u2018Gainst blackness he did hold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They marched on Mordor and won back<br \/>\nMuch of their realm from Shadows black,<br \/>\n\u2018Til that Dark Lord at last came forth<br \/>\nIn heated wrath and malice cold,<br \/>\nBefore their banners bold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gil-Galad Elven King was slain,<br \/>\nAnd Elendil Elf-Friend in vain<br \/>\nHis great sword drew \u2013 it broke in two,<br \/>\nThe West failed at Sauron\u2019s stronghold,<br \/>\nWith wrath and malice cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But Isildur, son of the King,<br \/>\nWith hilt-shard cut off Sauron\u2019s Ring<br \/>\nFrom his black hand in a last stand:<br \/>\nThus severed power the Ring controlled,<br \/>\nFailed at Sauron\u2019s stronghold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then Sauron fell in grim defeat,<br \/>\nThe Shadow fled from his dark seat;<br \/>\nHe lost his power, and since that hour<br \/>\nHis strength it waned, but still remained<br \/>\nAnd hid in secret\u2019s shades untold,<br \/>\nPower that the Ring controlled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Isildur took the Ring to keep,<br \/>\nBut lost it to the River deep.<br \/>\nFate\u2019s blow did wield in Gladden Fields:<br \/>\nFor this Ring did dark thoughts enfold,<br \/>\nIn secret\u2019s shades untold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There long it lay in mudded ground<br \/>\n\u2018Til chance came and at last \u2018twas found.<br \/>\nIts malice black then sprang its trap<br \/>\nPossessing mind took precious hold,<br \/>\nAnd did dark thoughts enfold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Its poison wore its bearer down,<br \/>\nDrew out his life. Far underground<br \/>\nIt lay in wait, attending fate,<br \/>\nBeneath the Misty Mountains cold,<br \/>\nAnd mind took precious hold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Dark Thought waxed though ever hidden:<br \/>\nThe Ring perceived, and left, unbidden.<br \/>\nBy chance or luck it was picked up:<br \/>\nThe tables turned, the tale evolved,<br \/>\nBeneath the Mountains cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Shadow grew, and back it fled<br \/>\nTo Mordor and its ashen bed.<br \/>\nThe fire reburned, the dark returned,<br \/>\nAnd watchful peace again was nulled,<br \/>\nAnd so the tale evolved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One Ring he made to rule them all:<br \/>\nThe Ring has heard its Master\u2019s call.<br \/>\nWhilst light devoured from brooding tower<br \/>\nWith growing power has hour by hour<br \/>\nOur fates ensealed in Ring of Gold,<br \/>\nAnd peace again is nulled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One Ring he made to rule them all:<br \/>\nThe Ring has heard its Master\u2019s call.<br \/>\nOne Ring to Find, to Bring, to Bind,<br \/>\nThe Lord of Rings rules, as of old,<br \/>\nOur fate with Ring of Gold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~*~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Lord of the Rings Poem<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Jordan K<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The light of the Eldar wanes &amp; so the light of Men<br \/>\nThe oncoming Shadow lives with Morgoth&#8217;s spin<br \/>\nYet the fell trees will sing in the wood again<br \/>\nThe royal seed as meant to be sent<br \/>\nThe &#8216;White Tree&#8217; will bloom in Gondor&#8217;s win<br \/>\nSaruman couldn&#8217;t stop the Rivers rage<br \/>\nHobbits will change history in the Third Age<br \/>\nIsildur&#8217;s bane will resurrect the pain<br \/>\nIsildur&#8217;s heir will pave the way<br \/>\nDwarves hide from the outside as the Old alliances die<br \/>\nThe frost from the North is stormy tide<br \/>\nAngmar is on the Dark Lord&#8217;s side<br \/>\nCry and weep for the fall of Arnor<br \/>\nShe has no shield or armor anymore<br \/>\nThe ruins exclaim the failure of Numenor<br \/>\nPraise the Maiar who defend the &#8216;silver cord&#8217;<br \/>\nThe Sea calls us back to shore for the time is short<br \/>\nThe Eagles swoop down as a last resort<br \/>\nMt. DOOM fumes with poisonous ash &amp; dust<br \/>\nSauron makes war on us with an Eye of Lust<br \/>\nDisguised in light as a fair form to trust<br \/>\nThe Island was crushed &amp; it sank into deep water<br \/>\nElendil sailed to become Gondor&#8217;s father<br \/>\nElessar carried the light of the Evenstar farther it seems<br \/>\nThe Farthing was saved by Gandalf&#8217;s dream<br \/>\nThe Shire remains to remain evergreen<br \/>\nElves make music as they dance and sing on distant shores<br \/>\nRemembering no more all the &#8216;dark lord&#8217; made sore<br \/>\nThere are no more foul memories to hoard<br \/>\nNo more talk of spider lore or faithless orcs<br \/>\nNo more black speech or the screech of enemy hordes<br \/>\nThe Road goes on and on as grace affords<br \/>\nAnduril comes down from the &#8216;elven lord&#8217;<br \/>\nA Dunedain ranger reclaims a re-forged sword<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s called the &#8216;Flame of the West&#8217;<br \/>\nIn the words of Gandalf the
