3 Trolls in 6 (Movie-verse)<\/strong>
\nBy The Grey Elf<\/em><\/p>\n

\nA stooped trio peered into a kettle
\nWiped clean from licks many and spittle
\n\u201cIt\u2019s empty,\u201d observed tall one-ton
\n\u201cSo\u2019s yer \u2018ead\u201d said Bert Sr.\u2019s son
\nA grocery list indeed they must settle\u2026.<\/p>\n

\nScabby carrion and pickled summer moss
\nFungal goo drops, very pure, plus vermin dross
\nFrom rabid jaws, fresh squeezed slaver
\nFor a blood sauce, marrow of cadaver
\nAnd gray mouse tails so they can thoroughly floss.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cMe apron\u2019s on, Tom, get yer to market\u201d
\n\u201cKindlin\u2019s cold, Bill, grab a flint and spark it\u201d
\n\u201c\u2018Where\u2019s me purse?\u201d cried simple Tom
\nUpon his face, Bert slaps a palm,
\n\u201cT\u2019were written out!\u201d and clouts his slow target.<\/p>\n

\nBy and by, Bill raised up from his latrine
\n\u201cDid yer wash yer hands? Are they squeaky clean?\u201d
\n\u201cDid I wha\u2019?\u201d asked wafty Bill
\n\u201cGood lad! Yer can have yer fill.\u201d
\nSee, Bert wasn\u2019t all couth-less and mean.<\/p>\n

\nA fetid soup sat reeking before them
\n\u201cTime fer grace,\u201d Bert said, discharging some phlegm
\n\u201cGive us gold, give us grog,
\n\u201cGive us grub and a mad dog \u201d \u2013
\n\u201cNow fall in, lads, let us swill to the brim.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nWith bellies bulbous, three trolls digested
\nTheir pastime was now closely contested
\n\u201cOi\u2019d like a tale!\u201d, \u201c\u2018Oi\u2019d like a smoke!!\u201d
\nTom piped, \u201d \u2018ow \u2019bout kara\u014dke!!!\u201d
\nAn all-out brawl proved what answer bested.<\/p>\n

THE ELVES LAMENT<\/strong>

[1st Age]<\/p>\n

This land is beautiful
\nso untamed
\nso many lands
\nthat have no names.
\nTrees to plant
\nand grass to grow
\nand other things
\nwe\u2019ll never know.
\nSongs to write
\nlike none before
\nthat shall be sung
\nforever more.
\nBirds and beasts
\nto fill the land
\nthings to awaken
\nwith a gentle hand.
\nElven kind
\nso young and brave
\nhave much to learn
\nbut many days.
\nAnd so we danced
\ncontent with peace
\nknowing not
\nfear or grief.
\nThe age\u2019s end
\nwas drawing near
\nwe felt that good
\nwas always here.
\nFirst age is past
\nand next begun
\nbut two will be
\nas good as one.
\nOr so we thought
\nbut we were wrong
\nour downfall\u2019s sung
\nin many songs.<\/p>\n

[2nd Age]<\/p>\n

The Elves were blind
\nhe tricked us all
\nand now we fear
\nthe world shall fall.
\nWhat have we done?
\nWhy did we trust?
\nHis kindly words
\nhave turned to dust.
\nHis evil ways
\nwere always set
\nand we have naught
\nexcept regret.
\nSeven rings
\nhe has them all
\nnine for Men
\nobey his call.
\nThe Elven three
\nare hidden well
\nand not an Elven
\nsoul will tell.
\nThe One is His
\nand His alone
\nOne for the Dark Lord
\non His Dark Throne.
\nAnother age
\nis passing by
\nand very soon
\nthe Elves will fly.
\nTo the Havens
\nthen set sail
\nand trees will die
\nthat once were hale.
\nBut ere we sail
\nto peace and calm
\nwe\u2019ll help the Men
\nto right our wrongs.<\/p>\n

[3rd Age]<\/p>\n

The One is lost
\nor so it seems
\n\u201cIt\u2019s mine! \u201cIt\u2019s mine!\u201d
\nwe hear him scream.
\nSearching near
\nand off away
\nit will return
\nto him one day.
\nOur days grow thin
\nour glory fades
\nour happiness
\nwill pass away.
\nLothlorien
\nand Rivendell
\nMirkwood fair
\nbut also fell.
\nAll will pass
\nwhen we are gone
\nbut be remembered
\nin our songs.
\nThis age will fade
\nand fourth draw near
\na King will come
\nin battle gear.
\nThis age for Men
\nand not for Elves
\nwe\u2019ve saved the land
\nbut not ourselves.
\nThe Three are safe
\nand so we planned
\ntheir powers faded
\nfrom our hands.
\nwe give our blessings
\nto mankind
\nand hope that they
\nwill someday find.
\nThe beauty of
\nthis Middle-earth
\nthe living things
\nand all their worth.
\nTo the Havens
\nwe go in haste
\nbut do not weep
\nthis is our fate.
\nSo here at last
\nwe say fare well
\nto Lorien
\nand Rivendell.<\/p>\n

Son of Gondor<\/strong>

Son of the steward of the white city,
\neldest of his father\u2019s heirs
\nwarrior and defender
\nprotector of Gondor<\/p>\n

Marshaling his garrisons
\nkeeping Mordor\u2019s onslaughts at bay
\ncourage unequaled
\nstrength to fend off the shadow<\/p>\n

Mighty was he in strength and stature
\ntall and grim
\nthe blood of N\u00famenor ran in his veins
\nhe bore a horn made from that of a wild ox<\/p>\n

United with other free peoples of Middle-earth
\non a quest to oppose the enemy
\nto hinder the ever-growing malice
\nhe set out from the land of Imladris with eight others<\/p>\n

Long and terrible their quest seemed
\ndefeated by cruel Caradhras
\nthe fall of Mithrandir in the Mines of Moria
\nthe Orcs pursuing their company<\/p>\n

Upon Amon Hen his will was corrupted
\ndrawn by lust for the One Ring
\nseeking to use it\u2019s power to protect the people of his city
\nthus it was that the Ring corrupted Boromir son of the lord Denethor<\/p>\n

He endeavored to seize the Ring from the halfling Frodo
\nto snatch that which would give him power
\nhe attempted to undo what the council at Imladris decided
\nhe tried to take the Ring from the ring-bearer<\/p>\n

His lust to save Minas Tirith was too great
\nand the Ring\u2019s power made his lust grow
\non Amon Hen he faltered
\nthe halfling escaped his grasp<\/p>\n

The revelation of his great mistake came ere the hour of his death
\nhe could not find the halfling and was told to look after the halfling\u2019s kinsmen, Meriadoc and Peregrin
\nupon the struggle to help the halflings, the enemy\u2019s forces were on the move
\nthey reached Amon Hen
\nthey slew the mighty warrior<\/p>\n

Upon the great ox horn he blew mightily
\nalas for he was not in the boundaries of his homeland,
\nno help came
\nhe fended his companions as long as he could
\nbut at last he fell
\npierced with many arrows
\nwounded many a time
\nin a valiant attempt for redemption,
\nthe great son of Gondor fell
\nHis time in the world was ended
\nupon his death bed, he received redemption from Aragorn, one of his companions,
\nand thus did Boromir depart from Middle-earth<\/p>\n

The Music of the Ainur<\/strong>
\nCycle One, of an ongoing project:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe Entire History of Arda, in Vers<\/strong>e

In the beginning there was One
\nEre yet the Moon or Sun
\nDid shine their face
\nUpon those of Elven race<\/p>\n

The All-Father, Illuvatar
\nsaw the Void stretch wide and far
\nThen made He the Ainur strong
\nAnd taught them to make song<\/p>\n

They sang their own songs pleasantly
\nOne or two, or only three
\nAnd as they increased in harmony
\nEach new voice added his beauty<\/p>\n

Then He a theme did unfold
\nAnd by their music, E\u00e4 would mold
\nTaking up song they did sing
\nThoughts unfolding like flow\u2019rs in Spring<\/p>\n

A great and powerful melody
\nEverchanging as the sea
\nRising and falling in a swell
\nFilling the the hall where they did dwell<\/p>\n

But then it entered into the mind
\nOf Melkor, to follow his own design
\nTo him was given the greatest gift of power
\nAnd he rose alone, tall as a tower<\/p>\n

Dark and bitter thoughts did he conceive
\nApart from his brethren, and now did weave
\nHis own ambitions and desire,
\n(Lust for Eru\u2019s Secret Fire)
\nInto lyric ,black and grim
\nDiscord rising about him<\/p>\n

No longer did they sing one song alone
\nFor in every note pride\u2019s seed was sown
\nAt last those near him began to falter,
\nAnd yet others began to alter
\nTheir own song and did forsake
\nThe melody they had set out to make<\/p>\n

Higher and louder the tumult grew
\nUntil Illuvatar started anew
\nA song different and more brave
\nAgainst which Melkor\u2019s did rave<\/p>\n

New phrases sounded in their ears
\nSoftly falling , like gentle tears
\nA lament for what is lost, but shall be
\nForever held in memory<\/p>\n

This agony of passion frail
\nWas eas\u2019ly drowned by the gale
\nThat Melkor and his followers made
\nThe Ainur then, their music stayed.<\/p>\n

Strong his song in truth became
\nWithout any grief or shame
\nTrying to challenge Eru\u2019s plan
\nBut just then ,a third began<\/p>\n

Eru\u2019s song was rich and full
\nIt shone out as a jewel
\nA very pattern of his heart,
\nIn which no Ainur had a part<\/p>\n

Melkor\u2019s song turned to braying
\nNever able but still assaying
\nTo overcome and subdue
\nThis final theme ,as on it drew<\/p>\n

The Ainur\u2019s reply ,artless but loud
\nWithout form, but high and proud
\nSeeking only the mastery to claim
\nBy volume, this was its only aim<\/p>\n

And as the new anthem rolled,
\nTaking the place of the old,
\nThe defiant notes could only add
\nTo the beauty it already had<\/p>\n

Melkor tried, but In vain
\nTo conquer this, the final strain
\nOnly to make it greatest than the first
\nIt\u2019s glory growing with each verse.<\/p>\n

At the end did toll
\nOne final note, out did roll
\nHigher than heaven, deeper than sea
\nCrashed, bringing all Ainur to the knee<\/p>\n

Gimli\u2019s Ode<\/strong>
\nBy The Grey Elf<\/em><\/p>\n

Unearthly is Lothlorien\u2019s gold leaf
\nLike ingots spell-cast into a silk sheaf
\nFlaxen auroras may beguile
\nYet fade conjuring a queen\u2019s smile
\nHer coiled lock keeps my heart in sweet grief.<\/p>\n

A Fallow Land<\/strong>

A fallow land lies half-awake and looks up at clouds
\nImages stir and shift in shape like white unfurling shrouds
\nAs seeds scattering o\u2019er a wild heath
\nwords rain down to lift what sleeps beneath
\nthis fertile Middle Earth, where tales sprout from dreaming brows.<\/p>\n

\nA tricksy pox will horrify

Apparitions dwell in his pipe of halfling leaf
\nWraiths of disappearing rings, its smoky motif
\nWisp-ers of shadow fill his lungs
\nOmens circle a hobbit young
\nSauron\u2019s black bellows swath his head with grey grief.<\/p>\n

Bombur Twice<\/strong>

Behold me, a worldly patron of gourmand taste
\nAny dish any drink enjoy I any place
\nFood\u2019s my savory sovereign
\nAhem, well after great Thorin,
\nTis true I\u2019ve more of an equator than a waist.<\/p>\n

My gingery red beard once disappeared mid-dine
\nNow my bald chins pillow a mustache most refined
\nConversation at dinner
\nOnly makes people thinner
\nThough it\u2019s been rumored that I swallow my own lines.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s in a Letter<\/strong>

Linguist Tolkien patented a letter scarlet
\n\u201cS\u201d spells corruption in his fabled alphabet
\nFront and foremost in a name
\nIt monograms an evil stain
\nA change of character might a new nature beget \u2026.<\/p>\n

If Sauron were Mauron, a monocle he\u2019d sport
\nYaruman would bake humble pies and merry tortes
\nBlaug a carousel flyer
\nTreagol in a cherub\u2019s choir
\nFree of Sssssses, he\u2019d with trilling angels cavort.<\/p>\n

What of brave Samwise? No dastard villain is he
\nHis initial fails to mar true-blue fealty
\nThe exception to Tolkien\u2019s rule
\nAn archetype purely faithful
\nSelflessness the key to his moral literacy.<\/p>\n
