McKenzie is a former member of\u00a0The Black Seeds<\/a>. He has released an album called\u00a0Prototype<\/em> as Video Kidand is a member of the\u00a0Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra<\/a>.McKenzie attended Clifton Terrace Model School (model in the sense of a standard school for training teachers; not a school for models),\u00a0Wellington College<\/a> and then\u00a0Victoria University of Wellington<\/a>where he met\u00a0Jemaine Clement<\/a> who was also studying film and theatre. Together they were members of\u00a0So You’re a Man<\/a><\/em>. They later formed\u00a0Flight of the Conchords<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

As The Conchords they have toured internationally and released four CDs:\u00a0Folk the World Tour<\/a><\/em> in 2002, Grammy Award-winningThe Distant Future<\/a><\/em> in 2007, Grammy nominated\u00a0Flight of the Conchords<\/a><\/em> in 2008, and\u00a0I Told You I Was Freaky<\/a><\/em> in 2009. The Conchords produced a six-part improvisational comedy radio program for the\u00a0BBC<\/a> and have appeared on\u00a0Late Night with Conan O’Brien<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0The Late Show with David Letterman<\/a><\/em> and\u00a0The Late Late Show<\/a><\/em> with\u00a0Craig Ferguson<\/a>. After a successful appearance in2005<\/a> on\u00a0HBOs<\/a> One Night Stand<\/a><\/em> , the Conchords were offered their own 12-part HBO series\u00a0Flight of the Conchords<\/a><\/em>. Its first season ran from June to September 2007, and its second season premiered on HBO January 18, 2009.<\/p>\n

McKenzie has appeared in the first and third films in\u00a0Peter Jackson<\/a>‘s\u00a0Lord of the Rings<\/a><\/em> trilogy. His silent role in the first film achieved some minor internet fame as\u00a0Figwit<\/a>. His father\u00a0Peter McKenzie<\/a> played the role of\u00a0Elendil<\/a> in Lord of the Rings.<\/p>\n

Along with Jemaine, McKenzie was featured as one of 2008’s “100 Sexiest People” in a special edition of the Australian magazine\u00a0Who<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McKenzie and fellow Conchord Clement guest starred as a pair of camp counselors in “Elementary School Musical<\/a>“, the season premiere of the\u00a022nd<\/a> season of\u00a0The Simpsons<\/a><\/em>, which aired on September 26, 2010.<\/p>\n

During the summer of 2010, McKenzie flew to Los Angeles to serve as the music supervisor for the The Muppets<\/i><\/a>.\u00a0 <\/sup>He went on to write four of the five original songs from the film’s soundtrack including “Man or Muppet” and “Life’s a Happy Song” both of which were nominated for Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards<\/a> and Satellite Awards<\/a> for Best Original Song.<\/p>\n

At the 84th Academy Awards<\/a> in 2012 his song, “Man or Muppet<\/a>“, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McKenzie, together with Australian comedian Hamish Blake<\/a> starred in a New Zealand feature film, Two Little Boys<\/a>, finished in late 2011 and released in New Zealand on March 2012.<\/sup><\/p>\n

He is married to New Zealand publicist Hannah Clarke and currently lives in Los Angeles, New York and Wellington, New Zealand. They have a daughter, Vita, who was born in 2009.<\/p>\n
