He rose to prominence in New Zealand in the late 1980s with the lead role of Inspector &#8220;Sharky&#8221; Finn in the\u00a0<a title=\"TVNZ\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TVNZ\">TVNZ<\/a> police drama series\u00a0<em>Shark in the Park<\/em>, and is also well-known for his roles in two long-running New Zealand\u00a0<a title=\"Soap opera\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soap_opera\">soap operas<\/a>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mercy_Peak\">Mercy Peak<\/a><\/em> and\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shortland_Street\">Shortland Street<\/a><\/em>, and his distinctive voice can be heard narrating a large number of documentaries.<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, Thomas is best known for his roles of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jason\">Jason<\/a> in\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hercules:_The_Legendary_Journeys\">Hercules: The Legendary Journeys<\/a><\/em> and narrator in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Costa_Botes\">Costa Botes<\/a>&#8216;s and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Jackson\">Peter Jackson<\/a>&#8216;s mockumentary <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Forgotten_Silver\">Forgotten Silver<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas is a graduate of\u00a0<a title=\"Liverpool University\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liverpool_University\">Liverpool University<\/a> and\u00a0<a title=\"Oxford University\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxford_University\">Oxford University<\/a> in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/England\">England<\/a>. Bilingual in English and\u00a0<a title=\"Welsh language\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Welsh_language\">Welsh<\/a>, he is also a writer of dramatic material in both languages. He has scripted several episodes of New Zealand television programmes, and also of the Welsh drama series\u00a0<em><a title=\"Mwy Na Phapur Newydd (page does not exist)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Mwy_Na_Phapur_Newydd&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Mwy Na Phapur Newydd<\/a><\/em>.
