{"id":102620,"date":"2016-12-23T23:24:35","date_gmt":"2016-12-24T04:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/?page_id=102620"},"modified":"2016-12-23T23:24:35","modified_gmt":"2016-12-24T04:24:35","slug":"the-great-hall-of-poets-december-2016","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.theonering.net\/torwp\/the-great-hall-of-poets\/the-great-hall-of-poets-december-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Hall of Poets &#8211; December 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>There and Back Again, by Frodo Baggins<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"intro\"><em>By Melissa A.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Old Bilbo took a walking holiday with hearty dwarfs.<br \/>\nA wizard\u2019s lucky number solving riddles in the dark,<br \/>\nHe won a magic ring, did outwit a fearsome dragon,<br \/>\nAnd then emerge from raging battle Thorin\u2019s truest friend!<br \/>\nWhat I would only give just to go there and back again!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And now the magic ring is mine, yes to my great regret.<br \/>\nTo leave my cozy hobbit hole, the date at last is set.<br \/>\nThe whole of Middle Earth at stake, not a lonely mountain!<br \/>\nAt least my Uncle Bilbo knew where his great trip would end.<br \/>\nI have not left for where \u201cthere\u201d is yet so long to be back again!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My journey\u2019s end is one of doom and this alone I\u2019ll bear.<br \/>\nThough my companions nine do swords and bows and axes swear,<br \/>\nThe oath I took to brave the Mordor waste does not bind them<br \/>\nLest Sauron\u2019s ring their bane become before Orodruin.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve sworn I will go there, but will I make it back again?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The ring has melted in the flames and Middle-Earth is free<br \/>\nOf Morgoth\u2019s minion, Orc-lord Sauron, and his tyranny.<br \/>\nAnd yet I find my wounds of sword and sting and tooth won\u2019t mend.<br \/>\nThough all the nine save one went home, my journey will not end.<br \/>\nAlthough I made it there, for me there is no back again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by: Luke T<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Who dares entering my domain?<br \/>\nWho is so bold to take my gold?<br \/>\nI am the king of the mountain,<br \/>\nwho slayed all warriors of old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Well thief, where are you? Show yourself!<br \/>\nYou\u2019re caught in the dead of night.<br \/>\nI smell you, and I hear your breath!<br \/>\nDon\u2019t be shy, step into the light!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Do you think you can deceive me?<br \/>\nI know you stole something of mine.<br \/>\nOne of my precious golden cups,<br \/>\nnicely crafted and shining so fine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You will take nothing from me, thief.<br \/>\nYou and your friends will not succeed.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve eaten your little ponies,<br \/>\nand will punish you for your misdeed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Do not think you can take revenge,<br \/>\nthe old king of this hall is dead.<br \/>\nI ate his people like a wolf,<br \/>\nand the rest fled from me with dread.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You see: my armor is like iron,<br \/>\nI can\u2019t be pierced by a single blade.<br \/>\nTrust me, I feel completely safe<br \/>\nfrom your brave little Dwarvish raid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For my teeth are swords, my claws spears,<br \/>\nand my wings a hurricane, so strong.<br \/>\nThis quest for Erebor has failed,<br \/>\nyour people have never been so wrong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And I know who assisted you:<br \/>\nthose lowly men of the long lake.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s time to pay them a visit,<br \/>\nthey will all fear the fire drake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They should not have listened to him,<br \/>\nthis lord of the silver fountain.<br \/>\nNow they will pay homage to me,<br \/>\nthe true king under the mountain!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Gorlim\u2019s plead<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>or known as<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The betrayal of Gorlim the Unhappy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">By Sarah Idri\u00e9l The Fair<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There was a man, in those old days when Beren still walked on Arda<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and L\u00fathien Tin\u00faviel was dancing free to the music of Daeron\u2019s flute,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and this man\u2019s name was Gorlim and he was married with Eilinel the White,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">fair and gentle maiden and she was much loved by his husband.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But too soon came the day when Gorlim had to leave her,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">because of \u2018The Battle of Sudden Flame\u2019, horrifying and terrible day in the memory<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">of men and elves, but the exact amount of pain no one could say<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">because very few returned and someone who remembered said once;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018I could not talk about that day of agony, because great sorrow overshadow my heart\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">but Gorlim went away with his lord, Barahir 7th head of the house of B\u00ebor,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and in the glory they left, to the fourth battle of the Wars of Beleriand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Bravely they fought but at last Morgoth the Accursed gained the victory,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and the remaining fled and hid, and Gorlim was among those who returned<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">only to found that the lands were plundered and Eilinel was nowhere to be found!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Great was indeed the grief in that day, but even greater was the grief of Gorlim<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">because of the disappearence of his much beloved wife.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gorlim joined Barahir\u2019s outlaw band and many times he secretly<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">went back to his house to seek Eilinel and look, one autumn when he came again,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">he saw a glimmering white light behind the window and Gorlim hurried to<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">the house and he shouted for joy;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Eilinel, Eilinel, a shining star by day,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dear Eilinel, she has found the way!\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But cruel treachery was that fair light on the window<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and Gorlim was captured by Sauron\u2019s hunters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So he was taken in front of Sauron The Great who promised to him<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">that he could reunite with his beloved wife Eilinel,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and Gorlim, his heart sank into darkness, and what he decided in great despair<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and sorrow and in the greater desire to see again fair Eilinel,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">let Gorlim, brave man of the House of B\u00ebor, to his death and tragedy,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">for on the instant Gorlim spoke, Sauron laughed and the earth and mountain were shaking under his black speech;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Gorlim the traitor, you shall reunite with your wife, indeed!\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So Barahir\u2019s men were killed except one, who was not there at that moment,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Beren, Barahir\u2019s son had a dream where Gorlim\u2019s spirit came to him<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and said to Beren;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018I, who was cruelly betrayed, I am traitor myself,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I\u2019ve betrayed my Lord, by my word!\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And Gorlim The Hapless cried out;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018So I plead for forgiveness!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Naethen, Goheno nin, Goheno nin!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Forgive me! Forgive me!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Beren, it is no time to waste,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">your father needs your aid!\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But it was too late.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And Beren, being in great agony,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">swore an oath to avenge his father,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018but I shall not wept, for my heart is stone-cold\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This was the tale of the betrayal of Gorlim the Unhappy, who was also betrayed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And Eilinel, fair Eilinel, had died a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~ * ~~<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There and Back Again, by Frodo Baggins By Melissa A.
