  1. Would have Loved to gone to that- but there’s no AMC Cinema near me…
Any chance Cineworld can do it as well?

I’m confused about what exactly we’re getting here. I’ve seen the EEs of the first two in theaters. It would be nice to see them again, but I also own them all, so is it really necessary? Also, the AMC publicity calls them “director’s cuts” but they really aren’t, as per the DVD commentary. Furthermore, the AMC press says they are “being unveiled in theaters for the first time” which is not true. This leads me to wonder if these cuts are somehow different from the DVD EEs Plus further copy that reads “each event will feature approximately one hour of new footage”. That’s an overestimate for all three films, but ESPECIALLY FOTR, which had only 30 minutes of additional material. So will these films be even longer, or will there be additional footage shown outside of the film? Or is AMC’s press just bollocks?

  11. Hmdutton says:

Great news! I have both versions of the films, but viewing & hearing on the big screen will be so much better!

Got tickets for myself and 2 friends for all 3 movies. We have several AMCs in the DC metro area that will be showing them. However the biggest and best, the AMC Loews Uptown in DC, that hosted Trilogy Tuesday, is not showing the movies this time. Don’t know why.

  18. Joykinz says:

Where did you get your tickets?

  19. Mykhaeli says:

    Greetings TORNians!
-Are these going to be digital films/35mm?
Because supposedly there weren’t any 35mm’s of RotK.
I would think so due to the fact that of the new digital masters created for the Blu-ray releases.
These should be the best YET!
(now if we can only clarify the longer running-times Loews has for them…)

    See ya there!

*could have been here with ya since ’01 (._.)*

  20. 4KDigital says:

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be great quality. It’ll be digital projection, but it’s basically 1K. Normally, theaters have 2K or 4K projectors. 4K has the wow factor. I feel these films deserve the 4K projection and I’m really upset about this.

  21. RT says:

Who cares, so long as you can see it and follow the story. I am more interested in the delivery, then sit there and argue digital projection.

  22. Elvengreen_leaf says:

    Come to Canada. Pleaseee

  23. Josh Houston says:

fellowship is 3 hrs 50min, two towers is 3 hrs 55min and return of the king is 4hrs 25 min. haha

  24. Tafrick says:

should make it a little harder for people to find out where it will be playing and
where to get tickets etc. if they are not careful, someone may actually go see
    it. ;-P

  25. I agree.  I think movies are movies and sometimes fans put a little too much thought into them.  If you enjoyed the originals (and extended versions) and you are really THAT into LOTR, then go see them again in theater.  Enjoy the social experience that you get when you go and get an icee with some popcorn and Reese’s Pieces.  Worrying about “the director’s cut” or “quality projection” is a little overboard for me.  But to each his/her own.  I for one am truly excited to see some of the different changes that they have made.  I haven’t gotten to see all three extended editions yet.  So this should truly be a treat for me.  I hope everyone that sees it gets to enjoy it! – Well if the quality is good enough and we can make it through the extra half hour of material!
