From MSN: For years, J.R.R. Tolkien’s landmark three-volume fantasy “The Lord of the Rings” was considered unfilmable. But New Zealand director PeterJackson, best known by the late ’90s for some splattery horror flicks and the elegant but tiny “Heavenly Creatures,” had a vision of how to put “Rings” on the screen. That vision (filming three movies at once, using the latest in visual effects and with New Zealand standing in for Middle Earth) was embraced by executives at New Line Cinema, Jackson’s co-producers and writing partners, scores of dedicated crew members, and a cast who brought beloved characters such as Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and Gollum to fully realized and wondrous life.
