Robin writes: In spite of opening on a record 18,000 screens worldwide, Matrix Revolutions was unable to unlock the mysteries of box office gold as it came in only 3rd for Wednesday Openings. The #1 Wednesday record belongs to Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (4th of the Star Wars movies). The #2 spot is held by last year’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The unofficial tally: Phantom Menace $28 million; Two Towers $26 million; Matrix Revolutions $24 million for opening day.
