Fighting orcs and goblins was the easy part of The Lord of the Rings for John Rhys-Davies. The hard part was the skin-peeling makeup he had to wear as bearded dwarf-warrior Gimli. “It just ripped my face apart to put that damn makeup on,” Rhys-Davies says. “I’d lose the top layer of my skin every time.
