But Watford is where the orchestral music for The Lord of the Rings is being recorded. Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore and the London Philharmonic are in residence at the Colosseum (formerly the Watford assembly hall) to work on The Return of the King, the final part of the trilogy. Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam have been tapped to star in the indie “Hooligans” for Odd Lot Entertainment. The project is due to start shooting in April with Lexi Alexander at the helm. The story centers on a Harvard undergraduate (Wood) who moves to London after he is wrongfully expelled from the Ivy League school. Once there, he meets up with a young man named Pete (Hunnam), who introduces him to the violent underworld of soccer hooliganism. [More]
Online retail giant Amazon has made its first profit outside the traditionally busy Christmas holiday period, propelled by the company’s free post and a surge in DVD sales driven by Lord of the Rings. The company, which has outlasted most of its rivals from the dotcom boom to become one of the biggest names on the internet, made a pre-tax profit of £9.5m compared with a loss of £21m a year earlier.
