Ian Apperley writes: One of the more interesting things that you get to participate in as a fine upstanding representative of the media is the famous “media junket.” Now, if you took the two words, applied some poetic licence (see www.dictionary.com) then you could be forgiven for thinking that a media junket is a dessert made from flavoured milk and rennet that originated from a country south west of Asia which, was settled by Indo-European people and became a part of the Assyrian Empire before being conquered by Cyrus the Great. This comes from our good friend Brandon Gray at BoxOfficeMojo.com:
Industry tracking numbers for ‘The Two Towers’ are through the roof (as expected). The movie’s at an 99% awareness level among the public and over 80% have it as their first choice to see among all movies in release and coming out this weekend. These are ‘Harry Potter’-level tracking numbers — basically as highly rated as a movie can be. The biggest opening ever for an approximately three hour movie was posted by ‘Pearl Harbor’ on Memorial Day weekend in 2001 — $59,078,912 at 3,214 theaters. Its tracking levels were nearly as high as ‘The Two Towers’ — which bows at around 3,600 theaters — suggesting that ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’s $47,211,490 December opening weekend record could very well be in danger.
