In yesterday’s Daily Variety, there was a great story titled, “Rings Cycle: Tolkien Trilogy posed an otherworldly challenge.” The article focuses on costume designer Ngila Dickson’s efforts creating the realism of Middle-earth. One of the more intriguing facts contained within the story: “… I think we made 15,000 costumes.” Wow! (Can you send me one for Halloween??) I have attached scans for those of you who can’t get yesterday’s Variety.

Because some 100 million readers have dipped into “The Lord of the Rings” since its initial publication in 1954, it’s fair to say that the fantastical literature of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien has never needed any help from either Hollywood or a little Chicago theater. [More]
