Pre-emptive warning for movie spoilers.
This all started when I began looking into Bilbo’s mithril shirt for our mega-spoiler post, following up a tip from an eagle-eyed reader that said shirt had been sighted in one of Peter Jackson’s previous production blogs.
It wasn’t the clearest of vision, but yes it seemed as though it was Bilbo’s mithril shirt — the same one we see him give to Frodo at Rivendell in The Fellowship of the Ring. Nice to know, but not much of a revelation. (more…)

Here we are a year later following the fantastic film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The waiting is over and the time to immerse ourselves in another movie about Middle-earth has begun. I, like so many of you have been counting down the days until it was time, and after seeing it twice I’ve written my personal review.

While reviews for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug were expected to
begin getting published this coming Sunday – the embargo was lifted early and we began getting reviews today! TORN staffers, who have been lucky enough to see the film already, will be reviewing the film soon enough. First up will be our own Quickbeam, who is currently finalizing his thoughts. Earlier today a brand-new clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug premiered during a Google+ hangout with Peter Jackson, Evangeline Lilly and Richard Armitage.
It featured a glimpse of a very memorable moment from the book, as Bilbo helps the dwarves escape from the Mirkwood Elves. The clip has now popped up on YouTube in high definition, and we’ve posted it for you here. Enjoy! (more…)

A high-definition version of the Bilbo-Gandalf clip that aired last night on The Daily Show has popped up on Empire Magazine Australasia’s Facebook page. Of course, we’d seen bits of it before, but this 48 seconds stretches the scene a little further than we’ve previously scene.
