Peter Jackson to adapt sci-fi series

Peter JacksonPeter Jackson is secretly working to adapt the Mortal Engines fantasy novels for the screen. The hush-hush project is understood to be in early development, with work on the first of the four books under way, industry sources say. Weta Workshops is also believed to be working on designs for the science fiction series, which features giant mobile cities. A spokesman for Jackson did not deny the project was on the books yesterday, but said “any comment should come from Peter”. More..

Director Peter Jackson has given us dark lord Sauron from “The Lord of the Rings” and the giant ape in “King Kong.” On Friday, he unveils what could be his most horrific monster to date: Stanley Tucci. The actor plays Mr. Harvey, a twitchy child murderer with a bad comb-over, in “The Lovely Bones,” Jackson’s adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel.

In the film, which is part gritty crime thriller, part metaphysical mushroom trip, teenager Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is murdered on her way home from school in 1973. From a brightly colored, dreamlike purgatory known as the In-Between, her soul observes her family’s attempt to come to terms with the crime. Peter JacksonPeter Jackson is making the rounds promoting his film “The Lovely Bones.” Thanks to all those who are sending in the many stories from around the world regarding Jackson and his films. Some critics have savaged it and others (like Total Film, love it. Wherever he goes Jackson is getting questions about all his projects including his producers role on the two-film adaptation of “The Hobbit”. Peter Jackson’s ghostly encounter

Wellington film-maker Peter Jackson says he saw a real ghost once. In London for the premiere of The Lovely Bones – a film he has directed from Alice Sebold’s story in which a murdered teenage girl gives her viewpoint from heaven – Jackson said he did not know what a real soul was like. A another candidate for a dwarf?

Jackson looking forward to ‘proud’ premiere

Movie fans will again have stars in their eyes when The Lovely Bones gets the red carpet treatment at the Embassy Theatre. Two of the film’s biggest names – Oscar winner Susan Sarandon and nominee Saoirse Ronan – will attend the Kiwi premiere on December 14. New Zealand stars Rose McIver and Carolyn Dando are also expected to attend, along with Peter Jackson, who co-wrote, produced and directed the film. Fans will have the opportunity to collect autographs on the red carpet. The last major Hollywood film to have a Wellington premiere was Jackson’s King Kong in 2005, when thousands lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the stars. More..
