There is just one week until Comic Con 2012 starts with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11. But aside from the TORn panel and WB’s panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you may be wondering what else there is for a Hobbit fan to do. Waaaay back at the dawn of TheOneRing.net (last century) Badali Jewelry was the very first sponsor of our enterprise website that dared to follow “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy when it was just a whisper on the wind. Since then the maker of officially licensed Middle-earth jewelry have been tight with the website. But this year at Comic-Con, TORn and Badali are getting even closer! Besides making amazing One Rings, they feature custom works spanning 22 specialized genre lines and they expanded space for this year’s show, allowing enough room to share with us! TORn will be hanging out for the duration of SDCC, so really, we can’t thank them enough for that. (We will also have staff hanging with our friends at the Weta Workshop booth, more on that in another story!)
We checked in to see what they had going on for the show and it turns out they have some great new items, including plenty of “Hobbit” related stuff and some significant discounts. Here is what they had to say:
Our main announcement is that we will be hosting TORn at our booth this year, but of course, you already know that. We are spreading our wings into two booth spaces this year so that means more room for people to peruse and have a friendly chat with the BJS Inc and TORn crews. We are in our traditional location of Booth #530 and now also #532.
We will also be debuting 3 brand new Officially Licensed The Hobbit pieces; Sterling Silver Bag End Door Necklace, White and Yellow Bronze Large Bag End Necklace or Key Chain, and Thror’s Key, used to open the Secret Way into The Lonely Mountains. These pieces are so detail oriented you have to see them with your own eyes to fully enjoy them. (more…)Posted in ComicCon, Conventions, Events, Hobbit Book, Jewelry, Merchandise, The Hobbit
Warner Bros. Prices of these items will range from $20 to the neighborhood of $1000 with these items starting to ship in September of this year.

The Arkenstone of Thrain was created and treasured by the Dwarven Longbeards clan of the Lonely Mountain. The Arkenstone was described by Thorin Oakenshield as “a globe with a thousand facets; it shone like silver in the firelight, like water in the sun, like snow under the stars, like rain upon the Moon!” When Bilbo Baggins discovered the Arkenstone on the top of Smaug’s treasure horde, “it was tinged with a flickering sparkle of many colours at the surface.” The stone filled his tiny Hobbit hand, yet he was able to secret the Arkenstone away in his deepest pockets.
The Arkenstone replica is made from fine K9 Crystal which has been treated with an Aurora Borealis plating, giving the the orb a magical glow. The stone exhibits a variety of color depending on what type light its under. The Arkenstone replica comes nestled on a black velvet pillow inside a Dwarven crafted wooden treasure chest. The runes stamped on the name plate on top of the chest read Arkenstone, written in the same Dwarvish runes found on Thorin’s Map. The Arkenstone measures approximately 59 mm (2 5/16″) in diameter — big enough to fill a Hobbit hand, but small enough to hide in a deep pocket. The chest measures approximately 4 1/8″ long, 4 1/8″ wide by 4″ tall (104.3 mm x 106 mm x 100 mm). The Arkenstone replica and Dwarven treasure chest weigh approximately 3/4 pounds (12 oz.).

QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND — Queenstown is the kind of place where people come and never leave. In fact, talk to a few dozen folks in town and chances are good a few of them wandered into the place and never found their way out.
If it isn’t already, get it on your bucket list.
The mark of the Lord of the Rings films are still indelibly written here and to a degree that might surprise. Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu with majestic mountains on either side, this busy adventure town looks a good bit like cinematic Middle-earth because many times this regions served as such in Peter Jackson’s films. In fact, the list is too long to include comprehensively here.
With a town big enough to have good food, amenities and lodging suitable for stars, it is also on the frontier and a gateway to much of the South Island. But, cultural and financial residue from the LOTR films is still readily apparent and especially to a writer who wears a “One Ring” jersey around town. Helmets off to Michael Noer at Forbes. He has written a tremendously funny and intelligent piece for Forbes as part of its “Fictional 15″ look at fictionally rich characters, including everybody’s favorite worm of Middle-earth. He walks us through Smaug’s net worth:
We know from the novel that Smaug’s wealth comes down to three primary components, the mound of silver and gold that he sleeps on, the diamonds and other precious gemstones encrusted in his underbelly, and the “Arkenstone of Thrain,” which is depicted as something like the Hope Diamond on steroids.
Smaug The Unassessably Wealthy and 14 other fictional characters can be found here whiile the bit focusing on Tolkien’s creation can be found right here. Can two films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” (featuring Smaug) earn a sum equal to a dragon’s hoard? Enjoy and discuss!Posted in Characters, Hobbit Book, Jewelry, The Hobbit
