Actor Orlando Bloom is currently making his Broadway debut (sans blonde wig, we assume) in a new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

This is the first time Romeo and Juliet has been staged on Broadway in 36 years — and we have THREE pairs of tickets to giveaway to lucky TORn readers!

Bloom’s co-star is two-time Tony Award® nominee Condola Rashad, and the production is directed by five-time Tony Award® nominee David Leveaux. The play will open on Broadway on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre; preview performances have been running since Saturday, August 24, 2013.

How do you enter?

To enter to win one of these three pairs of tickets, all you have to do is follow @RomeoJulietBway on twitter, then send @theonering.net a TWEET!

Simply follow ‘@RomeoJulietBWay’, then tweet:

Please enter me to win tickets to R&J on Broadway! <s>@</s>RomeoJulietBway <s>@</s>theoneringnet <s>#</s>TORnRJ

Tweet us by MONDAY 16th Sept – don’t delay! We’ll then pick three winners from all the tweets received, and we’ll be in touch with those lucky folks to let them know!

The winners will be able to choose tickets for a WEEKDAY performance of their choice (depending on availability) before Nov 1st of this year. (Which means, if you’re planning on coming to New York ComicCon, you could go and see Romeo and Juliet on the Wednesday and then come to TORn’s party in the Big Apple on the Thursday – more on that soon!)

If you aren’t lucky enough to win, you can still buy tickets to see the lovely Orlando on stage! All details of this production can be found here.

Don’t forget the #TORnRJ in your tweet! Good luck!

And it’s wowing audiences in the Big Apple.

Opening as a part of the Lincoln Centre Festival at the weekend, critics have praised the “uniformly brilliant cast” that includes Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving.

Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh are still slightly terrified by the play ‘It’s excruciating,’ says Blanchett. ‘What I find the most difficult thing to exist within is what Tamas [Ascher, the Hungarian director] describes in Chekhov as the “stupid silences” where everyone just falls into a silence that is utterly stupid, and their stupidity is revealed to them, and they are staring into a void.’ The production continues at the New York City Centre until Saturday.

Hot on the heels of Sir Ian McKellen’s fund raising money for Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal now another fundraiser has this time for Christchurch’s The Court Theatre here’s the full press release:

From Hobbits to hip-hop stars, a range of international celebrities have come to aid The Court Theatre’s fundraising drive.

To assist in replacing numerous assets lost when the Christchurch theatre company was forced to leave its Arts Centre venue following the 22 February 2011 earthquake, a range of items have been donated for an online auction on Trademe that will be running from 24 – 30 May.

Beyoncé, Stephen Fry, Orlando Bloom and Court Theatre Fundraising Patron Dame Maggie Smith, as well as locals Hayley Westenra, Sir Peter Jackson and Mark Hadlow, have offered items to the fundraising appeal – from signed posters, prints and scripts to CDs, jewellery and DVDs.

Court Theatre Chief Executive Philip Aldridge says “the ongoing support from the artistic community has been overwhelming – we continue to get phone calls, emails and messages asking ‘how can I help?’. We hope this auction will help The Court’s continued recovery alongside the city.”

Last year The Court constructed a $4.6million theatre inside an old grain store in Addington, following an intense fundraising campaign and 112-day build. Although the company opened the new space and resumed performances to great public acclaim, insurance negotiations are yet to resolve replacing items essential to the theatre’s continued survival. As Aldridge puts it: “we have built a theatre – now we need to kit it out.

A link to the various items and Trademe auctions can be found on The Court Theatre’s website, www.courttheatre.org.nz, from 9am Thursday 24 May. All auctions run from 9am Thursday 24 May until 8pm 30 May NZ time.

We are thrilled to exclusively offer you 20% OFF the price of tickets when you use the code ‘ONERING.’ Follow the link below and enter the code during checkout, or call 1-888-go-njpac and mention the code to the ticket agent. If you are not familiar with the show:

“The big-screen Lord of the Rings may have had greater financial resources, but Charles Ross’ one-man version has just as much energy! This comedic send-up of Tolkien’s epic fantasy shoehorns 11 hours and 23 minutes of film into a mind-blowing, 65-minute performance in which Ross portrays 42 characters — as well as the theme music and sound effects. “Charles Ross is a winning entertainment machine,” says The Washington Post.”

This show has been universally praised by Ringers internationally, so we highly recommend checking it out. If you do go, please send in a report of your experience to spymaster @ theonering.net. [Buy Tickets]
