Comic-Con is the focus of fandom for the next five days, and for those of us who cannot attend, we are going to be heavily leaning on our 100% volunteer staff at the show. To load even higher expectations on their shoulders, we’ve put together a LIVE coverage page featuring tweets, images, fb posts and of course a LIVE stream all with the hope they can update frequently. The page will auto update as new details come in, so just load up the subsite and sit back and relax. And if you want to communicate with our staff, use the hashtags #smaugcon #tornlive #sdcc @theonering.net. Enjoy the coverage and if you appreciate it, please take a moment to support our site with a donation or snagging something from our shop! [LIVE Coverage]

SPOILER WARNING. Entertainment Weekly has a new shot of Tauriel from ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.’ In the accompanying article, Evangeline Lilly, who will play this completely PJ-created character, talks at length about her role. Since this is EW’s scoop, jump on over to the article for all the juicy details! And of course, share your comments below! We’d love to know what you think of these new details.
When The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on Dec. 13, there will be a fresh face among the residents of Middle-earth: Tauriel, an elf warrior played by Evangeline Lilly ofLost fame. “She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill,” says Lilly. She’s also not found anywhere in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original fantasy novel, or in any of Tolkien’s other writings for that matter.
A coupled of things worth mentioning regarding this still.
The first is a technical observation: I do feel that red hair in this new still has been bumped compared to the video images of Lilly (or her double?) what we’ve previously seen in the production diaries — the new image has a quite intense copper colour. But bright sunlight will tend to make colours seem warmer, so that could be the explanation.
The other is regarding a spoiler, so highlight the text below to see:
Although EL is staying mum on who the romance is, it’s been previously hinted at by Aidan Turner in Total Film late last year. Personally, I suggest a “meeting of minds” type of romance revolving around the duo’s shared interest in archery culminating in a very tragic ending at BOFA. Any romance with Legolas has been categorically ruled out by Peter Jackson himself. So no need to get worked up there.

Reports are everywhere today that Viggo Mortensen turned down a role in Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit.’ The headline implication being he was specifically asked to reprise the role and turned it down. The reports are wrong (in fact, most are removing a critical word in the quote). Here’s the exact excerpt from The Guardian’s interview with Viggo Mortensen:
In Peter Jackson’s Hobbit film, several of the Rings cast reprised their roles. Was he asked to take part? “No. Before they started shooting, back in 2008, one of the producers did ask if I would be interested. I said, ‘You do know, don’t you, that Aragorn isn’t in The Hobbit? That there is a 60-year gap between the books?’”
Viggo’s immediate answer to the question is ‘No.’ He was NOT asked to take part. Secondly, he was asked in 2008, when The Hobbit screenplay and pre-production was in its most early stages. The producer who asked the question probably asked the same to every single LOTR cast member to gage the writing team’s options for the script.
