Fraud of the rings?

Peter Jackson’s production company has cast doubt on the authenticity of one of the world’s largest collections of Lord of the Rings memorabilia. American Troika Brodsk has been advertising in New Zealand papers for items used in the production of the trilogy – and the upcoming Hobbit prequels.

Brodsk believes he has the largest private collection of Lord of the Rings props in the world – between 25 and 30 pieces. He says he already owns Gimli’s axe and Eowyn and Aragorn’s swords but his most expensive purchase is Frodo’s sword, Sting. More..

Gaming: WB’s War in the North & Aragorn’s Quest

Adam writes: I rented the new DVD release of “Where the Wild Things Are,” and while sitting through the previews (it wouldn’t let us skip them), we came across an unexpected treat. The last preview before the main DVD menu popped up was a teaser trailer for the new cross-platform next-gen video game, “Lord of the Rings: War in the North.” It was probably about 20 seconds long, but it looked incredible. The entire thing seemed to be a cut-scene featuring a band of humans battling orcs and a troll. At the end was a screen showing the platforms (360, PS3) and a website (www.warinthenorth.com) which takes you to WB’s video game site.

Xoanon here, it seems like following the link takes you to the WB’s ‘Aragorn’s Quest’ page with the trailer below. Does this mean Aragorn’s Quest and War in the North are one and the same? Someone with knowledge please drop us a line to let us know!

GDT fav Perlman joins cast of ‘Conan’

Thanks to ringer ’smokerings’ from the forum for alerting us to this story. On of Guillermo del Toro’s favorite actors, Ron Perlman, has been cast in the upcoming ‘Conan’ film as Conan’s Dad. What does this have to do with ‘The Hobbit’ films? Well, we are beginning to see a trend. Actors who we would expect to have a role in the Hobbit films are taking other roles in films coming out in 2011. One can start to jump to a few conclusions…either the actor(s) will not be involved with ‘The Hobbit,’ their roles in these other films do not prevent them from working on ‘The Hobbit,’ or (what we believe is more likely) ‘The Hobbit’ is being delayed to a 2012 release. As always, this is all speculation and rumor. Discuss it in our forum! [Read Article]

Hugo Weaving as Red Skull? Hobbit Implications?

ComingSoon.net is reporting that Hugo Weaving, aka Elrond from The Lord of the Rings films, is in talks to play the villain Red Skull in the upcoming ‘Captain America‘ movie. If Hugo takes the role, he would be reuniting with director Joe Johnston (Wolfman). The film is expected to be released July 2011. What does this mean for Hugo’s involvement in the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ films? Your guess is as good as ours, but with the continuing rumblings that the first Hobbit film will not be released until Dec 2012, this may have no effect at all on his availability. There is a lively discussion taking place on the message boards thanks to Ringer Alex. [ComingSoon.net Article]

Battle of the Last Alliance Statue – Now In-Stock

Sideshow Collectibles is now shipping the ‘Battle of the Last Alliance’ Sauron vs. Numenorean Army Diorama. As the name implies, the dynamic diorama features the Dark Lord Sauron swinging his mace as the valiant Numenorean Army goes flying. Having just received this piece myself, I must say, the description does not do justice for the scale and action contained within in it. If you have any interest in the Last Alliance battle sequence from Fellowship of the Ring, this piece perfectly captures one of the more dramatic moments. Sideshow is also hosting their annual Fantacular where you can get a free promo item with the purchase of instock collectibles. Check it all out at SideshowCollectibles.com. If you do end up owning this piece, please take a moment to share your thoughts in our forum! [Battle of Last Alliance Diorama] [Sideshow Fantacular]
