New York ComicCon starts TOMORROW! Don’t forget your party tickets!
Staffers from TORn have started arriving in the Big Apple to set up our booth – that means New York ComicCon is almost upon us! The fun kicks off at 10am tomorrow morning; here are some of the highlights for Tolkien fans:
First of all, TORn’s booth this year is number 3164. This is NOT our usual corner spot – we could only get an ‘inline’ booth this year. But look for the usual ‘tent’ and you’ll find us! As ever, we’ll have t-shirts and buttons for sale, and we have some fabulous items for our ‘lucky dip’ giveaways! It’s an election year even in Middle-earth; here are the t-shirts we’ll have on sale this year:
On Thursday night we have our annual PARTY! Ringers Take Manhattan again! This year our main sponsors are Middle-earth Enterprises – we’re very grateful to them for their generous support of our event. We also have many other folks who are supporting the party, by donating items for giveaways and goody bags – see our list of supporters below. Even though WETA aren’t able to be at New York ComicCon this year (they’ll be much missed!), they have sent us some star prizes for our raffle that evening, and for the goody bags – you’ll want to get your hands on one!
We have of course invited all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit cast members who are in town this weekend; we can’t promise anything, as they have very busy schedules, but we can say that two of them have said they will TRY to come along to the party. So you should be there too! Tickets still available here – don’t miss out! (Remember, you don’t need a ComicCon pass to come to this party – read all details and get your tickets here.)
On Saturday night we’re hosting one of the ‘Fan Meet-ups’ – 7.45pm in room 1C03. This year we’re focusing on the 15th anniversary of the release in movie theatres of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. How have fifteen years flown by so quickly?! What do you remember about the first time you glimpsed Peter Jackson’s interpretation of Middle-earth? Maybe it was your first introduction to Tolkien’s realm; maybe you were in high school; or maybe you weren’t even born yet! Come and reminisce with us; bring your friends and make new ones! Costumes encouraged!
Attending the convention this year are actors Evangeline Lily, Graham McTavish and Andy Serkis. (Andy has a big events at Madison Square Gardens, to promote the latest Planet of the Apes film, War for the Planet of the Apes.) Richard Armitage is also in town, starring in the play Love, Love, Love – maybe something to go and see one evening, after the convention centre closes?
There are so many stars at the convention this year, and events which will be of interest to TORn followers; yesterday, even in the half-empty hall as set up was going on, we spotted a huge poster with Elijah Wood’s face on it – advertising his upcoming show, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (based on, of course, the fabulous Douglas Adams books).
We’re so grateful to all our supporters who make it possible for TheOneRing.net to be at New York ComicCon, and to bring lots of goodies to our fellow fans who come and see us here:
Middle-earth Enterprises – our main sponsors for the convention this year.
ROW NYC – who give us a great deal on a great place to stay!
TORn pals Badali Jewelry have also generously given us some amazing items to giveaway!
Many thanks to all!
There is so much to see and do here at New York ComicCon – we hope you are able to join us! Today is the deep breath before the plunge – tomorrow, let the fun begin!
