From abc.net.au – Cate Blanchett has won the Golden Globe award for best drama actress, fighting off fierce competition from Sandra Bullock to take home the coveted statue.
The Australian was honoured for her widely-acclaimed performance in Woody Allen’s tragic comedy Blue Jasmine.
Blanchett stars in the film as Jasmine, a wealthy New York socialite who moves into her sister’s apartment after the collapse of her marriage leaves her broke and broken.
Accepting the award – which she described as a “heavy thing that makes your biceps look great” – Blanchett paid tribute to director Woody Allen.
