Peter Jackson: “Hobbits are always the greatest heroes ’cause they’re us. They’re the unlikely hero who is thrust into this incredible danger, and they have no choice but to find the goodness within themselves and the strength within themselves and try to survive and get through it, so they’re always the most interesting heroes. They’re not flawed; they’re just unlikely heroes.”

In the first part of this extended series, Parallel Universe visits, and reports on, the set of ‘The Hobbit’ in New Zealand. A couple of the more interesting snippets include Ian McKellen’s difficulties with “simul-cam” and the heightened level of realism and detail required to “fool” digital capture.
