Well I’m glad we got that all cleared up! We were right, nothing was exaggerated, and I’m glad you watched the video again to notice how Mr. Jackson did actually answer the reporter’s question with an admission of *wanting* to do it, but he was evidently stifled by the studio to not make an outright ANNOUNCEMENT. But the 3rd film is definitely in the works, everyone is reporting the same details this week (which does indeed matter), and I’m still amused at how deftly Jackson was delightfully tip-toeing around it just to whet the appetites of the influential fan base. He almost fooled you too! He is a very clever speaker, and knows exactly what to say when he knows fans are listening.

Only the film rights to the Hobbit & tLotR were ever sold, so no films of any other Middle Earth stuff can curently be made. And as Christopher Tolkien (who has control over his fathers works) apparently intensely dislikes the films, I wouldn’t hold your breath.

1. Saying that other publications are reporting on the same thing doesn’t change anything.

2. I watched the video.

3. What am I griping about? Quotes like this: “[. . .] a third Hobbit film is also on Jackson’s mind – he admitted it!” This is simply not true.

With that in mind, the title and premise of this article sounds like conjecture to me.

I stand by the veracity of my report against any such challenge. SERIOUSLY – this title & post are both accurate! What are you griping about? Indeed this is the *biggest* news story of Comic-Con that a 3rd Hobbit film is on the table and Jackson admits here to being in discussion with the studio on what exactly he might be do with extra footage. TheOneRing.net would not have posted this claim spuriously… it’s all over the web (HitFlix, iO9, among others) but TORn scooped them all with this exclusive. *BONA FIDE* If you watch this video and listen closely you’ll hear him reply to the reporter’s question: “Are you thinking of splitting the 2nd movie in two?” by saying he wants to go back and film more, and it could “be used for extended editions or WHATNOT… That’s a discussion that we’re having, yeah!” Which is his careful way of not outright saying it, but that he’s desirous of it, and discussing his plans with Warner Bros. Any other challengers to our journalistic integrity? Step on up.

He totally should make another one! They could use information from “Children of Hurin” or “Unfinished Tales” maybe even some The History of Middle Earth series. It would be absolutely perfect. The information is all there, it just needs to happen.
