All of the comments talking about how this would never fit into mythology don’t seem to understand the genre. The whole MOBA genre is about what-if scenarios, about ignoring lore and just pitting random characters against each other. Now yes, that is against the spirit of middle earth, but simply put, this is an interesting way to see the fights that never would happen in-universe.

Sheesh, if anything betrays the spirit of the source material, I think this game might take the cake. But, if they really wanted to do something like this, they should have gone full tilt crazy with it. Have Gandalf say lines like

“Bilbo took pity on you… Well I ain’t Bilbo, Precious!!” *SMACK!*

Then have Galadriel doing flips and stuff, have her land knees down on a dude’s shoulders, and snap their neck with the patented Lothlorien Hip Swivel. (Down-Side-Up+FiercePunch, btw)

If you’re gonna kill your source material, massacre it and make us laugh, like the Star Wars Kinect dancing game.

Yeah, the cut scene looks absolutely gorgeous, but there’s little chance the gameplay will match it, and this is a total misappropriation and misuse of the franchise. None of these characters act at all like they ought to as depicted in the source materials, nor is there any conceivable scenario for why they would all be battling one on one like this. What possible use would Gollum be in a fight? Why does Sauron have a flamethrower under his helmet? Who is commanding the armies elsewhere if all the generals are right there? Most importantly: Why in the hell is Gimli wielding Mjolnir?
