What Peter Jackson has done is something that not many people have thought of doing before; make each dwarf look like an individual. In the LOTR trilogy, every dwarf was interchangeable. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, they once again look all alike. In The Hobbit, they are individuals that, I am confident, will become memorable.

Kili is good looking, there isn’t much doubt there. Is he Elf good looking? I fear it will be much debated upon.

I do have one thing to say about Thorin. Is it just me, or does he look like a Star Trek Klingon?

Thumbs up for Peter Jackson to have the guts to stray from the common conception of dwarf design!

Love ‘em all! Kili is being called elf-like because of his bow and quiver of arrows…. But, what if he’s - perhaps – a Ranger Dwarf??? Ahhh! Cool! Elf (Reminiscent of Legolas – Bloom). Ranger (Reminiscent of Aragorn – Mortenson). Either way, he’ll be the ladies’ fave I’m betting.

Maybe getting them dressed in bikini would help to make them look sexy:) But I think they would rather make the dwarves and co. look more heroic to match the standards of LOTR. The more heroic, the more LOTRish.However,if the dwarves are supposed to be singing (and they are supposed to), I guess they could make them sing something sexy to ensure commercial value.

You don’t need “sexy” to sell films. I don’t mind if the actors all dressed up turn out to be “hot” or “sexy”. It all comes down to priorities. To me, it felt like lotr was made with the intention of staying as true to the book as possible. It just so happened that legolas and aragorn stole the show so to speak. This Kili deal feels like it is “looks” first, and then what his character is about.

Also, why is it that the film industry must cater to the opinions of females? Mature people will not care if there is eye candy or not. I guess this is a reflection of what the world is turning into…

Actually, Thorin and Co. were very deadly warriors, after Gandalf freed them they helped fight their way out of the mines. They also fought off dozens of giant spiders with only knives and stick(albeit with some help from Bilbo). AND it was a charge led by them that broke the goblins battle line and got them all the way to the goblin king’s bodyguard.
Yes they were also miners, but from what we see of Dwarf culture(Which isn’t much) I think that just about all dwarves were both capable miners and warriors. And they were off on a venture that was absolutely going to turn out violently(Smaug), so it only makes sense that they would leave armed to the teeth, and later they could make tools after they had freed their kingdom, rather than dragging them halfway across middle-earth.

Bombur – looks like a brother of Obélix potrayed by Gérard Depardieu
Bofur – a bit Mongolian, yes
Fili – either elvish or gayish or both:)
Kili – a bit too humanlike for a dwarf, I would say (however, I have never encountered dwarves in life, so I’m not an expert:))
Balin – fatherchristmasy, indeed:)
Thorin – maybe not old enough, though looking quite scary.Dragons should beware:)

Alas, our two handsome and youngest Dwarves, Kili and Fili, die at the battle in the end of the book. I doubt if Peter Jackson would change that? And I think each and everyone is amazing.
