In the appendices (to I think ROTK?) Tolkien does mention that there are female dwarves, that to anyone other than a dwarf, they are physically indistinguishable from male dwarves, including the beards (which the dwarves are born with). However, we should never see one, as Tolkien also stated that female dwarves would never leave their homes except in absolute emergencies (when, he said, they would dress like male dwarves).

I believe it was Tolkien who made some reference to the female dwarves maybe having had beards.

yeah, this is how a dwarf should look like, Gloin and Oin are much better than human-looking dori, nori and ori. Much better, real dwarves with real beards and grim faces!!!

Sweet! These photos look amazing. I’m assuming they were shot on the Epic camera with HDRx enabled. It’s got that tone mapping look to it.
