Veteran ‘The Lord of the Rings’ actors, Sean Astin (Sam) and Billy Boyd (Pippin), will star in the upcoming film ‘The Witches of Oz.’ The film, to be released in 2011, also stars comedic legend Christopher Lloyd.
The Witches of Oz follows the exploits of the grown Dorothy Gale, now a successful children’s book author, as she moves from Kansas to present day New York City. Dorothy quickly learns that her popular books are based on repressed childhood memories, and that the wonders of Oz are very, very real. When the Wicked Witch of the West shows up in Times Square, Dorothy must find the inner courage to stop her.
The official website for the film has posted a behind the scenes and teaser combo video to whet your whistle. [Check it out]Posted in Billy Boyd, LotR Cast News, Miscellaneous, Sean Astin

If Robin Hood, King Arthur or William Shakespeare were to parachute into the 21st century, they’d feel right at home in a nondescript cul-de-sac in San Leandro.
That’s where Fellowship Foundry is located, a mom-and-pop metal works that’s one of the last places in the United States to make hand-crafted pewter goblets, candlesticks, chess pieces and other emblems of the Middle Ages. “It may sound corny, but we’re really trying to put art into objects used in everyday life,” said co-owner Randal Moore. “And pewter is just a great metal to work with.” More..Posted in Merchandise

Continuing our series of character highlights from the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ films…(story spoilers)
Alias: Oakensheild, King under the Mountain
Race: Dwarf, House of Durin
Date of Birth: T.A. 2746
Cast: Richard Armitage
Thorin Oakenshield’s story is one of great daring, pride, revenge, and tragedy. Thorin II hails from a direct royal lineage (the House of Durin) traceable all the way back to the original Seven Fathers of the Dwarves. His clan is also known as the Longbeards.
Thorin’s early years at the Lonely Mountain (Erebor) give The Hobbit its foundational plot and all that happens therein comes from his efforts to avenge the wrongs against his House. At the age of 24, Thorin witnessed the arrival of the dragon Smaug and the slaying of his kin (T.A. 2770). The tragic memory was burned permanently into Thorin’s heart. Twenty-nine years later he fought valiantly against the Orcs beneath the East-gate of Moria at the Battle of Azanulbizar, where he earned the surname “Oakenshield” by using a great oak-branch in a pinch as both shield and weapon.
