From Sky McDougall of the California Artists Radio Theatre: HOLLYWOOD – Ray BRADBURY’s space tale, LEVIATHAN 99, will be presented as a tribute to Mr. Bradbury and Award-winning poet/playwright/director, Norman CORWIN, on the occasion of Mr. Corwin’s 99th birthday. The California Artists Radio Theatre stage production will star actors renowned for Star Trek and science fiction/fantasy classics, including William SHATNER (Star Trek), Sean ASTIN (Lord of the Rings), and Norman LLOYD (Tales of the Unexpected, Alfred Hitchcock Presents), joined by Samantha EGGAR (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Richard HERD (Star Trek: Voyager, SeaQuest DSV), Walter KOENIG (Star Trek) and H.M. WYNANT (The Twilight Zone), with John HARLAN, Robert LEGIONAIRE and Sky McDOUGALL, many of whom have previously worked with Mr. Bradbury and Mr. Corwin. Both Bradbury and Corwin will attend the performance. The event is Sunday, May 3rd at 2:30 p.m. at the Writers Guild of America Theater in Beverly Hills. Ray Bradbury’s more than five hundred published works exemplify the American imagination at its most creative. His best-known and most beloved books, FAHRENHEIT 451, THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES, THE ILLUSTRATED MAN and SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, are masterworks and served to inspire radio and television writers such as Rod Serling and Gene Roddenberry, Bradbury was awarded the National Book Foundation’s 2000 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, and the National Medal of Arts in 2004.
Norman Corwin is an American writer, screenwriter, producer, essayist and teacher of journalism and writing. Renowned as the “Poet Laureate of Radio”, he was the foremost writer and director of radio drama during radio’s “Golden Age”. He was also among the first producers to regularly use entertainment to comment on serious social issues. Corwin has won two Peabody Medals, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe. Inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993, a documentary film on Corwin’s life, A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin won an Academy Award in 2006.
