Or Talking About Somebody ELSE’S Work for a Change: Occasionally I am given the opportunity to write a preface for a book of another artist’s work. It’s an exercise I thoroughly enjoy, an opportunity to pry up the cowling and peek in at the inner workings of another image-maker’s mind. (You just have to keep ypur hands clear of the gears.) When Paul Bonner asked if I’d be willing to do a few words for a volume of his collected work that was in preparation, I immediately agreed quicker than you can say “And about bloody time too!”. Paul’s work is simply amazing, and just knowing folks like him are out there in the wildwood of the mind in which all fantasy illustrators wander is a comfort and an encouragement. Washington, Nov 2 (ANI): Peter Jackson is gearing up to produce live-action sci-fi drama ‘District 9’. The movie will be helmed by Neill Blomkamp, and will mark his feature directing debut. Blomkamp also penned the script for the movie along with Terri Tatchell, reports Variety. Jackson will produce through his WingNut Films production banner. QED Intl. will be financing the pic through its credit facility with Comerica Bank and Aramid Entertainment Fund, and will handle worldwide sales. Moviegoers may know him as the voice of Gandalf in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, or as a villain in the “X-Men” movies. But New Yorkers may soon know Sir Ian McKellen for an entirely different reason – as the voice of downtown Brooklyn. The British stage and screen actor has donated his voice to a four-minute, 21-second promotional video in which the Academy Award nominee touts downtown Brooklyn’s future.
“New Yorkers will enjoy a revitalized area that is an engine for economic growth, a place to pursue new careers, a neighborhood where young couples can watch their children thrive, a college town for students to follow their dreams – a true urban center for the city’s great borough of Brooklyn,” McKellen extols in a pronounced British accent.
