Cat writes: Even Classic TV has been influenced by The Lord of the Rings. On the 2004 TV Land Awards show, there were two references to LOTR. During the acceptance speech for the Pop Culture award for Gilligan’s Island, the Professor (Russell Johnson) stepped up and said, ‘I’d like to thank the people of New Zealand!’ Later in the broadcast, host Brad Garrett said, ‘If you’re just tuning in, The Lord of the Rings has just beaten McMillan and Wife.’
