The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has attacked the government for exaggerating its film-making tax breaks. Oscar-tipped Jackson singled out deputy prime minister Dr Michael Cullen, saying that he’d allowed the overstating of The Lord of the Rings deal to “give tax breaks a bad name”. “I do know how much the tax breaks were – although I’m not allowed to really talk about it – but it’s a minute fraction of the $200m that keeps getting bandied about,” Jackson said. “To me, that figure is . . . ludicrous and irresponsible.
