Auckland Mayor John Banks says if Wellington can’t cope with the Lord of the Rings premiere, the City of Sails can If Wellington is unable make the grade for the world premiere of the third Lord of the Rings film, Auckland can. The Wellington City Council will decide tonight whether to underwrite the refurbishment of the Embassy Theatre. New Line Cinema – the trilogy’s home studio – says the capital can only host the Return of the King premiere if the theatre is up to scratch.
