Anti-”Two Towers” Petition

We have received countless emails letting us know that some misguided person has started an online petition to try to convince Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema that the film of The Two Towers should be renamed in light of the events of September 11. Their reasoning behind the petition is that the title “is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center,” and that PJ & Co. are simply trying to “cash in” on the tragedy. For obvious reasons, not the least of which being that the second installment of The Lord of the Rings was named The Two Towers nearly 50 years before the September 11 attacks, we at TheOneRing.net consider this petition to be rather pointless and ignorant, and judging from the sarcastic and disgusted remarks in the petition itself, so do most of the people who signed it. (UPDATE: Yes, we are aware that there is a counter-petition out there. However, we do not usually link to petitions, positive or negative.)
