A Journey In The Dark Part 3

On we speed from the movie set back towards civilization. Well, to Clearwater anyway. The time is getting on to near 8:00 am now and the sun is climbing into the sky. Pretty soon the still air will be disturbed as the legendary winds begin their journey from the head of the valley. We power out past the horse stabling areas and on past the FX sheds. All are quiet as everyone has either headed out to the set or they are resting up, their early morning preparation shifts over. Speaking of shifts, we chuck the dark lord into 5th and leave a huge plume of dust in our wake…

As we wind towards the bridge we look back, casting our gaze nor-west for perhaps (very likely in fact) our last view of Edoras, The Seat Of the Mark. I still cannot impress on the reader enough, the magnificence of the setting. Whilst the actual set itself, perched high upon Mount Sunday, is a marvel of engineering and film-making magic it is the setting for all of this that boggles the mind. The river valley is absolutely vast, bordered on all sides by tussock and scree-covered hills/mountains. The river is but a shade of it’s former self, resulting in a wide gravel and tussock plain. It is like another world – Middle Earth in fact. Tis a pity the mighty Sauron is not blessed with chunky tires and 4WD ability – look out – it’s Minas Tirith!

Over the bridge and up the hill, along the long gravel road until Lake Clearwater. It certainly looks like it was made by Hobbits. Through the gate and all is quiet. We decide to head down to lakeside and quaff a few provisions. It has after all been quite a morning’s adventure. Our meager travel rations expended we decide on a wee jaunt through the town. Leaving Sauron to rest outside a pokey villa, we ramble through the dusty narrow streets. We find signs of recent activity but all is now deserted. Here and there schedules are taped to doors and clothes are drying on verandahs but not even a mouse stirs. Atop the main hill of the town is a large portable shower complex that sticks out like a sore thumb (apologies – kiwi colloquialism). It is not nearly as rustic as it’s surrounds and screams money!

Walking back downhill to find our mighty steed we come across a new edition to the ring family. RING 4. Narya, Nenya, Vilya and now Toyota!

With not much else happening in Clearwater we decide to be on our way. Our journey now leads us to the plains town of Methven, a gateway to Mt Hutt Ski Field and home base for the bigwigs and supply lines of the Lord Of The Rings production. We hope to mingle this evening with the stars, if indeed they are out on the town letting their hair down. Back through Mt Somers we speed; it is unlikely that even Shadowfax (let alone the local highway patrol) could keep up with Gauthaur and his passengers.

Fans and spies alike have been sending us indications that Ian Mune (an accomplished tv and movie director as well as a writer and sometime actor) is playing Farmer Maggot. From recent images and other speculation this looks to be a pretty good bet. BUT…as with all rumors, we need to confirm it first. So don’t set it in stone yet. In the meantime, check out a little bit more about Ian and the only picture i could find of him! [More]

The news seems to be pouring in on this new trailer, first, we get word from someone in the Disney camp about the chances of seeing the new FOTR trailer before Pearl Harbor, as well as some interesting news from a TORN Messageboard regular who recieved a semi-confirmation from a theatre manager. [More]

I just recieved this from somone inside the Disney camp.

It is CONFIRMED that the FOTR trailer (Teaser Trailer #2, in our parlance) will be with Pearl Harbor.

But here’s the catch: juct because the teaser is going out with the film, doesn’t mean you will see it. It is one of MANY trailers (from several studios) to go out in the cans of PH.

It is up the the individual theatres which trailers they want to show. So, if fans go to the theatre come May 25 to see the trailer with PH, know that they may not see it. They (the theatre managers) will have the trailer somewhere, whether it’s just sitting around, or showing with another film in the multiplex.

And another story from our very own TORN Messageboards

From: Goeth-Helm

Last night my girlfriend and I attended the local multiplex to watch ‘The Mummy Returns’, a fun thrill ride of a movie. Upon entering the first thing I saw was the concession stand (of course). Then a 12′ X 20′ poster for ‘Shrek’. And then there it was… in a large free-standing display case, 3.5′ wide X 6′ high, was Frodo, looking me in the eye, almost asking that I take the ring from him. I got a chill form it. My girlfriend pulled me away saying that we need to get a seat before they’re all taken.

For each preview I waited with anticipation that by some freak chance the next one would be THE TRAILER, but to my dismay I had no such luck. So after the movie I sought out one of the managers and asked if he could tell me which movie they were showing THE TRAILER with. The first manager I asked directed me to a second saying that he was in charge of such matters for the entire theater. Talk about “the man in the know”.

When I asked him my question he said “New Line has pulled the trailer for a few weeks and will be getting a new one at that time… right around when Pearl Harbor comes out”, he did not clarify if it would be showen with pearl or not and I did not ask. Well that set us into a short chat about CGI’s and how he thought that the LOTR CGI’s are going to be something we’ve not seen before and that WETA has some cutting edge stuff. He then recommended that we go see the Mummy Returns not knowing that we had just come from there.

Hmm…seems like my prediction MAY ring true, we may be seeing a NEW FOTR trailer within the next two weeks!
