The Past, It is Gone

As this reality slowly fades into the next
I look back on what I have experienced
And those people that I have come to know
They all flash in front of my glazed eyes
People, places, things that have happened
The Past Haunting me but eluding my attempt
to capture it, bringing the past to now.
But that was and will never be again.
Being blown around and changing.
Like a sweet morning mist only to
be burned away by the rising sun.
Will I see that person ever again or
Walk down the lonely mall in the dark
Will I even sit at that bar stool and
watch the people jostle back and forth.
So many divergent paths so many
faces never to be seen again
Then my name is called; bringing
me back to reality with a snap
I rise and walk forward towards
the stage, my robes rustling.
The past, the glory, the sadness, the past

As this reality slowly fades into the next
I look back at the choices I have made
And the people that I have let close to me
They all dance just out of my reach.
People, places, things that have formed me
They haunt my every thought mocking
what I have become and will never be.
But that was and will cease to be.
Like the oasis that once flourished before
the desert reclaimed it as it's own.
Will that person remember me or
Walk on a lonely night to visit me
Will someone take my barstool and
watch the drunks fight and love
So many different paths So many people
that will never realize that I am gone
Then the chair slips bringing
me back to reality with a snap
I fall towards the floor the
rope tightens and my neck breaks.
The past, the glory, the sadness, the past
